If Batman ever manages to consume his own pointy-eared cranium, consider my mouth well and truly shut. ;)

Until then, however, I will continue to shit on his name from a great height. :p

hmm... maybe now might be a good time to mention im actually a fan of batman. :)

Who really cares if he is or isn't but just to answer he ain't no fricking super heroe. He even started out with a geeky sidekick not many SH have any.

    Doesn't he have Bat sense?

Edit: Anyway, Spiderman was always my 1st choice of Superheroes, and I quite liked 'The Thing' - "It's clobberin' time!"

Nah, no one's that screwed up in real life. Or at least, most people keep that kind of stuff inside their "special dungeons". Y'know - sorta like what Batman and Robin used to do to Alfred in the darker corners of the Batcave. ;)

He does all this shit WITHOUT super powers.

    exactly.
so to answer the question, yes. you don't need superpowers to be a superhero. the fact that he is an ordinary man trying to accomplish extraordinary things, makes him super. :D

Psh. You could apply that rationale to all sorts of people - it's like calling Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King superheroes. Yes, they're great blokes, but they're not superheroes, because they don't have superpowers. How are poeple not getting this? :p:D

Rhino, it's not about superpowers. It's about results. Batman is right up there with the other superheroes.

Batman is a superhero, Zorro is a hero.

    close-minded. ;)

how do you not *get* that batman is a superhero is on you, not me. :p he IS.

and if gandhi wore a black cape.....it might've worked for him. :D think he might've gotten a bit too hot in the desert sun though. and i've never seen gandhi or king ever kick all sorts of ass, so yea........

  • Y'know that old saying, "The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he doesn't exist"?
Well, the greatest result Batman ever achieved was convincing the world he was a superhero. The sap. :p

Gandhi and King didn't even need to kick all sorts of ass. Batman just has unresolved anger issues. :p If Batman had a superpower, it'd be "Looking Moody".

i LOVE that saying, and i can only hear it in keyser sose/kevin spacey's voice whenever i read/think of it. :D but that's another film....;)

and hey, believe what you want to believe. some of us KNOW. :D

i cannot believe i am even debating the subject of batman......:o

related side-note. after seeing the dark knight...that very evening went home and rewatched for the umteenth time bat man begins......and then last night rewatched batman and batman returns for the first time in years, and wow........what a difference! i far, far, farrrrrr prefer the christopher nolan vision to tim burton's and never would think that really. sooooo campy! i LOVE burton, and i love his ideas, his style...but yes, i prefer the seriousness and darkness, plus the sense of inner conflict within the newer batman series. amazing. and truly, the first batman...yikes! there really IS NO comparison with these films, soooo divergent!

    back to batman the SUPERHERO!

btw - where is this rule book that states one MUST have superpowers to be considered a superhero? oh yea, doesn't exist, that's right. so sure...shut it.

The clue is in the title - superhero. ;) If you don't have superpowers, then where's the super coming from? You just have regular powers, so you're just a regular hero. It's logic. :D

And the seriousness of Batman is exactly what turns me off him in the first place - "boo-hoo, I had a bad childhood, now I'm gonna dress up like a deviant, punch some guys in the face, then frown for 5 hours in a dark room." Get a sense of humour, Bruce! :p That's why Adam West is, and forever will be, the only Batman that counts. :)

You have your average heroes, such as Zorro, Chief Wiggum, Collin, Lassie, Walker, Texas Ranger...

And then you have heroes who do more than saving the local farmer from drowning or slapping some petty thieves on the fingers... The guys who go after the real criminal masterminds, the real villians.

Batman is one of those. His achievements are super. He is super. He is extremely good, he is excellent, hence the premodifier super.
