I couldn't even get through the movie.
Horrid.
Gene Wilder was the perfect Willy Wonka.Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away0 -

And for the record, Depp did say in an interview that Michael Jackson was a small inspiration for the role.
Oh my god, now it's even creepier :eek:I came, I saw, I concurred.....0 -

btw i never associated willie wonka with charlie and the chocolate factory....although i saw the wilder movie first, i read the book and discovered the difference

See I read the book first at about 5 or 6 years old and then got excited to see the film ... and then :( ... it just wasn't as good as the book.
When I saw the second film it just seem darker ... like the book.So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -
Gene Wilder all the way!!!!
I am a Depp fan and think it was his worst movie as Wonka.0 -
I have seen Wilder's version at least 200 times... I couldn't even make it through the new one, it was just too bad.
This is like asking who would be a better frontman for Pearl Jam, Ed or Scott Stapp.0 -
Wilder for sure.
But I did think that the remake was closer to the book than the original. In fact, the first 20 minutes or so of the remake were so awesome, until Micheal Jackson---I mean Johnny Depp made his appearance. Creepy doesn't begin to describe him. He ruined an otherwise awesome remake for me.0 -
i enjoyed both wilder/depp interpretations (characters) pretty much equally.. i just can't seem to compare...~********************************

Thumbs up to the people who played the devil's advocate in this one. The bulk of the responses were certainly not in their corner.
On the same token, I feel I must cast a suspicious eye upon said thread participants, however.0 -
Not on the debate of Wilder vs. Depp but man did those songs suck in the remake or what?

Had I watched the first one for the first time in my 20s, I wouldn't have made it through the first 10 minutes.. I think I can bear a Tim Burton movie.0 -

sponger wrote:My vote goes to Wilder by a longshot. Depp kinda weirded me out in that role. Nowhere in the book does it say that Wonka had a base case of gender identity disorder.
yeah well if Wilder didn't have a case of gender identity disorder well who did?...~********************************
