Again, chill out. I don't think anyone would disagree about the wonderment of childhood and how wonderful children are....my cousin has two kids that I absolutely adore and they are quite wild sometimes, but they damn well behave in public....and the parents that don't try to ensure that, my friend, is what my issue is here

I've worked in a grocery store..........when you spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week at one you see a lot of foul shit.............

knowing my parents as well as i do.....them being my parents and all.........They wouldn't allow me to run wild at a grocery store at the age of 2..........

You're right to be glad that some of us don't have kids. I wish more people really thought about the whole thing before they started having babies. I should not have kids. Period. And I don't. Thank god. Doesn't make me a bad person, it just makes me someone who has no patience for children.

And, I actually have a whole plan envisioned on exactly what you mentioned, making people get licensed to have kids. Not a bad idea at all but nearly impossible to pull off.

The point is, you probably tried. They did their job and reigned you in. I never said I thought kids should go unchecked and for the most part, parents do their best to make the weekly shop a stress free event. I agree, allowing your kid to piss in a bookstore, smash up supermarket displays and not pay for or apologize is fucked up. I used to work in supermarkets when I was younger....... maybe things have changed and kids are more out of control these days?

I dont even think of being around kids that are "nuts" as needing patience. I consider it fun. there is no doubt its tiring, but most things fun are.

I think that there was a different mentality when I grew up. My mom would not let me run crazy in the food aisle. At the first sign of anything- she put everything back and walk out the store- no Lucky Charms for me. We learned not to do that early in life.

and yes, there is a line with kids and how much you let them be their "magical" selfs in public.

backyards and zoos (family entertainment areas etc.) are for where the wild things are. public spaces require limits and control. actually so do zoos. you know what i mean.

OMg it just makes me angry... people have no value for children... I am disgusted.. and yes I am crazy... good crazy... A childs best advocate are their parents...

Oh I've done that before. With four children in tow, and a trolley full of groceries.... I've packed it in and gone home. Some days it's just not worth the trouble.

Well done then. It has certainly made my morning a little more interesting. I was in Wal Mart the other day and it was actually the adults blocking the aisles that got my blood to boiling, so this is an issue that often crosses my mind

i think you're still missing the point. try to draw some distinction between what is acceptable and what isn't. it's not 0 and 1 here.

no, don't lash them to the shopping cart but don't let me constantly be grabbing things and getting in others' ways etc. etc.

it's all context and it's all discretionary but i truly believe most of the reason that such a good part of young western society is riddled with laziness and entitlement is because they were allowed to "run free" just a wee bit too much.

a lot of kids are rotters these days and that's solely on the parents.

See i always ended up in that little seat that the carts have.......or if my dad was there he took me back out to the car............

You seem pretty intolerant of people who don't have patience for children, so I guess that makes us both intolerant to some degree. I never said, I accosted people or anything for letting their kids run wild and I don't trip kids in grocery stores so I'd say I do have some patience for those who appreciate kids and kids themselves. I just understand where people are coming from who get irritated easily with loud, unruly children... and their parents.
