Longtime Celts fan here and it's great to get excited about what used to be the #2 team in Boston. However, I caution the fans that somebody has to get the ball to these stars in right position so they can go to WORK. OOOOHHH if we could get a gaurd like Agent 0....Gilbert Arenas but it will be an exciting year in Beantown just the same.

Except maybe for the Boston Bruins.

The B's did get a significant upgrade in Fernandez at net, however.

Ok, it's time this bullshit about the Western Conf. being SO much better!! The previous champ, west, before that east, before that, west, before that, east. Hmmmmm.... that doesn't seem so dominating.

Did you watch the NBA last year? The best teams were in the West, Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, Utah etc. Cleveland wouldn't have made it out of the first round if they played in the West yet they represented the East in the Finals. THings can change quickly but for right now the West is way better.
  • Its good to see the East developing into a much more high quality conference with the trades/signings of the off-season. The Celtics will obviously be the most improved team in the NBA with Pierce, Garnett, and Allen. Depth is clearly going to be an issue, but hopefully they'll pick up a few more roleplayers to fill out the team.

The Magic look to be a much better team next year with Rashard Lewis and an ever maturing Dwight Howard. The Knicks picked up Randolph and dumped off Francis. The Bobcats managed to hold onto Gerald Wallace and brought in Jason Richardson.

The net result of all of this should be a much more competitive Eastern conference that will hopefully be able to rival the quality of the big guns in the west.

All the same, being a Canadian, I'm a raps fan. So, I'd get a lot of personal enjoyment out of seeing the Celtics flop :)... sorry bostonlou

I wouldn't want Arenas at the point. Yes, he distributes the ball, but put him on the team and you've got 4 guys that want to score 25+ a night. It's tough enough with three guys like that. Add Arenas to the mix and I doubt the team would gel or have any chemistry. Sure they would probably make the playoffs, but I wouldn't count on a deep run. What Boston needs is a point like what Rondo can become if he continues to develop. Rondo does a decent job of running the offense and gets the ball to the open man, which is what the Celtics need with three scorers in the lineup.

You know you make a great point. I live here in Maryland now after growing up in Beantown and I just love Agent 0. I even root for the WIZ except when the C's come to town. I totally forgot about how he would mesh with our new big 3 it wouldn't work.

Where I work here in DC, Red used to live 2 floors up from me and I wonder how he would feel about all this? I miss his energy at our card games.

    Thanks again for the autographs.

Perkins has zero offensive game and is perennially injured. Big baby was getting his shot rejected at an alarming pace in Vegas SL, he has no lift (at 6'9" and 877 lbs who is surprised), and I think will be too slow and heavy to succeed in the NBA.

Perkins, if healthy should suffice. They don't need him to score, just rebound and play D.

Way better? I don't really think so. I think the styles are easier to watch in the west, but to say way better is not accurate. People have been saying that about the west for years now and it just isn't so. It's gone every other year for five years now...

Except he doesn't play "D" either, he is a decent rebounder, but really needs to develop in all other facets.

Not gonna happen. 1) Luxury tax. Boston will already be paying through the nose, especially if they have to pay for KG's contract extension.
    2) Gilbert Arenas is too young to take a pay cut in the hopes for a championship. If he was 5 or 6 years further into his career, maybe.

I think the best we could settle for right now, would be to get GP back, and to serve as a backup to Rajon.

you can't look at the finals only - that's just a coincidence. Look at the records of the teams that make the playoffs in the East. A sub 500 team can make the playoffs, that's not true in the West. The 3rd or 4th best teams in the West would likely be the top or 2nd best team in the East.

my hope for Perk is that this will be his year

he's never been healthy so you can't play when it feels like there are rocks in your sneaks

if he still sucks well then I don't know what we'll do

All this talk of KG in understandable but let's not forget Ray Allen is coming off one of the best years of his career. Look for the former Uconn star to be just as big a piece of the puzzle as KG if this team is going to win anything.

looking forward to watching these guys play together for sure!!

He's also coming off double ankle surgery ;)

I can't say that I was excited for Ray Allen. Yes he can shoot, but Wally could shoot too right? He was a minor upgrade.

    But KG?

It's easy when you're a Celtics fan, and you've spent the past few seasons in mediocrity. This is big.
