thanks girls! yeah once i get stuff framed i plan to shop around to other cafes/exhibit spaces to see if i can work that as well, since i need to get the stuff together for this anyway
absolutely beautiful work! thanks for posting, and congrats on getting the show. it's a lot of fun (and slightly nerve racking at times;)) to get the work together and go through the opening night. you'll have a good time showing people around to your pieces and talking to them about them. have fun with it!
congrats once again! something tells me you'll get a good reaction.
I see you're considering cafepress.com. Have you thought about posting on http://www.etsy.com? I love browsing through their art section.
Walking can be a real trip

cool art deco theater in town was asking for artists to submit work to be hung in the lobby and cafe for a month, i sent a couple pieces last week, and got the news today i was one of the folks picked they'll even do an opening party
thanks jeanie (what the heck sorta clip is that?! lol), matt, civ and justam! yeah matt i've gotten the tattoo suggestion from folks before, which would be kinda neat. i guess it'd mean i'd have to get a tattoo though, just for authenticity's sake haha ow!
mookie thanks, yeah i'm already wigging out haha it's good to know others here have gone thru this too
urban thanks, i haven't heard of etsy before but i will definitely check it out! i just took a quick peek and they got a duck puppet. they had me at puppet haha
you KNOW what i think/feel about your work....how exciting for you! i hope it open up many new opportunities for you, and/or....just enjoy it for the wonderful experience it will be! i'm so proud of you! just unbelievably WONDERFUL and you sooooo deserve this!

and thank you lizard and redrock, glad your daughter enjoyed the angel! i wasn't even sure what to call that one, was just a random doodle gone wild. i figured well it looked like a wing so what the heck haha
Congratulations B!!!! I'd love to be able to see the show!! Your work is beautiful! I love the rose and the black sunflower!!!
Cafepress would be a great idea!! I don't know if it would make you a katrillionaire... but it's a great way to get your art out there... and an excellent way for folks like us to be able to 'have' a piece of your work on something to call our own!!
Looking forward to more updates... and samples

thanks chica!
yeah the cafepress thing looks like a good deal, and absolutely, even if it didn't make a bunch of money, it's more for the exposure and to get stuff out there
i stopped by the theater on my way home to scope out the space, just to get a sense. it's their cafe, split into two rooms, TONS of wall space. the dude in there now has only 3 paintings up. the guy who let me in said that the painter was given the other room too but didn't bother to use it. i was thinking oh, honey....i'm gonna wallpaper this motherfucker haha
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
i get shy sharing stuff sometimes, but i guess i need to get over that quick lol here's a few i already got scanned, i have more i need to scan in though
Goodness... I love these two! What technique did you use? And what might you be selling something like these for?
Congratulations on the exhibition, obviously very deserved.
thank you! not sure what prices i'm going for yet, it'll be very affordable though! i need to get a logo and storefront set up with etsy and i'll share that as soon as it's up and running! also got a printing hookup so i gotta do that too lol
the rose was initially done with color pencil and then the leaves outlined in ink and colored with pencil. this is the original http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a370/chiquimonkey/yellowrose-1.jpg. i then brought into photoshop to do a black background just to play around with it. saved me from pouring tons of ink on the paper haha
the lily was done in red ink and then i scanned it, reversed it in photoshop and actually did a few different background colors, i liked the red for now though but i'll have the other variations available too
it's like i could do this all digitally, but i adore the feeling of putting a pen or pencil to paper, i need that tactile part of it
well that comes through.....photoshop is great to do the tweaks but the base should come from the hand....beautiful stuff chiq.....:)
thanks cb yeah i just see photoshop as another tool, like a t-square or an eraser. nothing can replace the scent of a freshly sharpened pencil or watching ink flow, mmm! i'm a doodle nerd haha
I absolutely freaking love the first 2 you posted. They just remind me of some sketches of costumes that someone did for a show I was working on...and I am getting a sort of Japanese feel to them.
Allie....your idea to get a tattoo of one of them is awesome! I don't have a tattoo, nor do I really want one..but your work would be what I would choose.
What is your medium? And what are they on??? Canvas, paper, fabric?
I just love them Chiqui. You rock.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

thank you, yeah i'ven told those had a japanese feel to them, even though i hadn't been consciously going for that - must have been lingering under the surface in me brain or something haha
and that someone would even think of anything i draw being a tattoo, that is the ultimate flattery. i have a friend who had mentioned that to me a while ago actually! i don't have any tats, just cuz i could never decide on one thing. i just draw on myself if i feel the need lol
they're just pen-and-ink on paper (i have different kinds of paper i'm a paper whore lol), colored pencil and then i'll scan 'em into photoshop sometimes to tweak colors and such.
i met up with the manager tonite and we went over everything. this is gonna be CRAZY! (in a good way of course lol). they had hundreds of entries but only 4 slots left, and she went on about my stuff, was really good feedback.

that is soooo awesome for you chica! i am so excited for you! and ya know, i think an old art deco theatre in particular would ADORE your work, simply b/c it is sooo well suited! so much of your patterning has a bit of an art nouveau feel, so it is beyond complimentary stylistically speaking, besides the fact that you simply have such a beautiful touch with line. i can't wait to hear/read all about it....damn gotta wait a whole year for it! good things come to those who wait, eh? just always fill us in of the whole process....it's a great thing for you!
That is so cool!
Congrats.
Your work really is so beautiful.
I want one. : )
Put your stuff on etsy.
yup i'll be doing that this week! only problem i'm having is coming up with a store name, only because whatever the store name will be is what i'd want to have as my main URL name too, and everything i've wanted is already taken  bitches lol
i was talking with a friend last nite about it and told her i was on the brink of just calling it 'llama says casual friday' with a tiny llama dressed in blue jeans.
of course that means i'd have to draw one. and all that lol but i figure if i can't come up with something clever but not cutesy then i'll go with the available name on etsy and a different one for my URL. or go with the llama lol

thanks dear! yeah i'm really pleased about it just cuz i *love* art deco anyway, and that was the theater i had volunteered to help save a few years back so it's cool how that went full circle
oh i know, a year seems so far away but time will fly i'm sure. and i'm glad really because it gives me more time to really plan it out, decide on a theme, make some more new stuff, cart my stuff around to other venues (having this scheduled will give me an edge i'd hope), and sell things too. i'll keep updating this thread as i go along my journey
