I know a lot of people have said this but the Vitamin E cream works great. I had foot surgery a little over a month ago and my doctor says the scars are healing incredibly fast. I started using it 3 or 4 times a day the minute I got the hard cast off. I think that stuff is a little mircle on a bottle.

were you cutting a orange with a Katana?
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

I applied a Vitamin E gel something on my scars for a couple weeks. It was offered at the salon I went to. I used it to loosen up the scar tissue underneath the skin. Don't know if it worked as I only tried it a couple times, but I definitely believe that scar tissue could become more flexible.

    Good advise!

I was in a really bad car accident and gashed my face wide open straight through and needed about 200+ stitches. I had a plastic surgeon and he said the most important thing was massaging the scar tissue (I used Vitamin E also) and staying out of the sun/using sun block. I did it faithfully and you can barely see my scar now...

Good luck and keep consistent care!

  • My physical therapist recommended Mederma when I had neck surgery, which left a nice scar. i never used it, but it's supposed to work pretty good.

Damn! :( .....that was one nasty looking cut!

Not sure if anybody here has suggested it ....but I find Neosporin products really facilitate the healing process and also lessen visible scars. I have had more than my share of wipeouts on my mountain bike and I have found every time I use the cream they heal quicker and diminish the visibility of the scars. Here is a link to the website ...I haven't tried the patches they mention but the cream has worked well for me.

Chiq, what about Bepanthen? You know it's for nursing mothers? Stops cracked, dry nipples? It has antiseptic properties me thinks. Might soften it up a little, make it less "tight" and stop it hurting so much?
    NOPE!!!

Actually J, I was a good gal and had an alcohol free evening last night. Which was great an all except I didn't have a sleeper either, (thought I'd clean up me act for a day :o ) and I was still sitting here at 3.30am. which of course meant I was snacking.

Yes you are writing cohesively! :) But then I'd expect nothing less! Some of us are excellent drunk typers, myself being the master! :p

if the scar ends up being bad i'll be conjuring up a story about how i got into a fight with ninjas, but if can make it less gnarly that'd be good too!

    Haha, good luck with that.

it's doin okay, thank you for asking! hurts still and it feels swollen and tight but looks clean and mending. im at work today for a few hours...busting macgyver moves with my elbow to get some things done lol i've managed to horrify everybody here just by looking at my bandaged hand haha everybody has been ultra helpful and kind.

one tool came by though, asking how my hand was and asked if my artistic career was over (????) who the fuck SAYS THAT? even if it was a joke, it wasn't funny :(

    Jerk!

Some people are so weird. Its like they don't know what to say, so they come up with the worst thing!

I'm glad you're back at work for a little while. It'll all heal up soon. Its amazing how quickly the body mends itself :)

    Keep it moisturised!

I've used creams containing oatmeal which contains vitamin E and, even if my skin looks funny here and there, there are no welts. (I would get scratched up a lot while trekking in the woods.)
    Avoid the sun.
    Don't scratch.

And next time don't use a drinking glass for throwing practice. A milk carton will do just fine.
