someone here had posted about the animal rescue site the other day and reminded me of all these. also, if you have firefox, you can put 'em in a folder and open in all tabs, so it's even easier to hit 'em all up :)

    cool!! thanks B!

I have to put Pati's charity on there that she has supported for a long time. I often help out whenever they need the extra help, the organization is called Gen5 :) their cause is to end child sexual abuse within five generations.

Just wanted to list Petsmart. They have a great program for helping animals get adopted. Check out your local Petsmart to see if you can volunteer. I do when I can at the local one here. My sister and her kids do every weekend. My one nephew could run the program if the main person quit. LOL I'm serious what a great kid my nephew is. Anyway here is the site.

I highly recommend adopting a pet if you can/want/need one. I just adopted a "special needs" cat through FUZZ, through a foster parent I met at Petco. I am now the proud companion of a 18 month old rescued lukemia positive cat named Boo. :) Apparently he was in pretty bad condition only 7 months ago, left out in the cold, etc, and the wonderful "cat lady" who fostered him did an excellent job. This cat has an awesome personality, and already has proven to be perfectly content around my kids, even tho he's never been around any before. I really don't understand why anyone buys pets at a pet store, especially cats. Adopt! :)

    Peace.

This is a wonderful thread. Should have a sticky attached. :)

Oddly enough, he was rescued by a group of elderly people who live a half a block from me, and they named him Boo Boo, because of all the wounds he had. :)

*raises his glass of jack n coke to the old folks and boo. :p

    nice work all!

beyond igby....b/c to find a resucu pug is not exactly common....:p ALL our pets have been adopted from north shore animal league, a nationally known, no-kill shelter. i personally have cohabitated with 4 rescue dogs and 2 resucue cats.....and yea, we did go and 'buy igby'...but hell yes, i am a firm believer in adoption...my lovely suki and chloe, both NSAL adoptions, GREAT pets, true members of our family!

dreamin'incolor, yes those stores have some really neat stuff! beautiful jewelry and all, definitely worth taking a look for a unique gift

and paperplates, that's awesome about boo! :) justlike dreamn, every pet i've ever had (well, with the exception of birds and fish, and 1 dog lol) were adopted.

another thing to consider, even if you don't have a pet but love critters, local humane shelters really appreciate donations of pet food and toys. if you see a case of cat or dog food on sale, pick one up and drop it off :)

Yes we do. I say we because I volunteer at one. :) It really does help. Also, newspapers and shredded papers (for the little critters), stamps, towels, blankets (non electric), peanut butter for the kongs for dogs, etc. Just go on to your local shelter's website for a list of what is needed and wanted. :)

I've been doing the accounting for our local shelter since 2000. I was originally just volunteering at our "store" which has new, used and consigned items for sale-the proceeds of which all go the our shelter. The bookkeeper was leaving and knew that accounting was my original profession, so asked if I would step in and take over in the interim and I said sure. Here I am 7 years later-lol. I really do enjoy it though and I figure I'm saving a salary that can be used to feed and shelter many worthy animals. :)
