it's cheating big time and i hope they bust it wide open and lose their medal. how low can you go to be hosting the olympics and lying about your participants.
    can't stand that.
  • Read this in the NY Times.... they tell how the Chinese have cheated in the past and lied about ages.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/27/sports/olympics/27gymnasts.html?ref=sports&pagewanted=all

I'm sure this scam will eventually come out when someone is not afraid to challenge the Chinese government.

LOL I have seen many children and it doesn't matter if you are Chinese, White, Black whatever.... you still develop a mature body and face! I guess you haven't seen too many children in your day.

Fortunately I've seen a few in my day since I was Pre-School teacher for 5 years and ran a before and after school program for another 3 years ages 9-14. Also a summer camp program for a combined 7 years and these were children from ALL over the world. These children's parents were scientists, doctors and researchers from NIH here in MD.

So I think the answer would be YES.

Yeah, the Chinese looked a bit on the young side :p but at least they seem like a team. The US team, with their phony hugs, remind me of catty, backstabbing high school girls....which, I guess, they are

This only an assumption on our part, let's see anything comes of this story.

They should follow the rules, but shouldn't the olympics be about the best athletes regardless of age?

to be honest i didnt realise there was an over 16 rule - i just always assumed those girls were young, around 12 or 10.
it is wrong to pretend they are older so they can compete - but hell ... has anyone mentioned their skill!!! the fact that a girl of 12 can perform at a higher standard than a 20yr old! and yes, the certainly acted like a real team, so happy for each other and proud of their routines. The american girls had glares made of ice.
what happens, i guess we'll see ... it seems sad that these poor young girls will be the ones to suffer tho
    impatience is a gift ........

I haven't been watching the Olympics. They haven't felt truly authentic in a long time.

Regarding the gymnasts: If they have better performances at an earlier age, what it the reasoning behind the minimum age requirement?

exactly! i mean it sucks and all that they're (maybe...most likely) lying about it, but they're young and they're STILL beating other teams. so it's pretty clear that they're deserving...

i think we're just being sore losers, heh :p

agreed...it's kinda weird that in gymnastics the older kids complain that the younger ones are beating them.

Sounds like we've become a bunch of whiners, nothing would come of this IF we were crushing the Chinese team.
