I am thinking about getting one .

I will be putting a load of songs on it and I would like to have alot of collection etc....

Would a Zen or other alternatives be better options?
What would the best one to get.
Price?
How long would it last before recharging?

I would have thought that these things would last a long time
When using an I-Pod must you keep your music on your computer? ARe you allow delate the stuff off it it later ?

Can multipale people use the i-tunes using different I=Pod

You may have a bit of difficulty if several people are using the same iTunes. iPods specifically designed to automatically update when you plug them into iTunes. There are manual ways of doing it, but that slows things down, especially if you'll be constantly flipping between the different people's preferences ( I guess the best way to do it is to create a different playlist for each person  ). Being a student I don't know anyone who shares their PC so not sure how practical it would be.

With iTunes you have to keep your music on your PC all the time. It's probably best to get a different mp3 player if you don't want the music on your computer.

As for battery, I'm not too sure how long it lasts exactly (never really timed it), but I listen to music a lot (5-6 hours a day I guess) and only have to recharge every 2-3 days. I have a 5G ipod, and apparently the 6G iPods have even better battery. So don't think you should have a problem at all.

All in all I heartily recommend iPods, they're good quality and are dirt cheap considering how much music they hold compared to other mp3 players. But for what you want, I'm not too sure.

You dont have to keep the music on your computer if you change the option off for manuall sync. That means you are dragging and dropping your music into your ipod rather then let the computer do it automaticly. Its really no big deal. I recommend an ipod i've had other MP3 players but i think they are the best.

Buy another brand, not an iPod. That's my advice.

Reason being, firstly you HAVE to use their crappy player. Secondly everyone I know who has ever had an iPod (and that's a lot of people) has had it break on them. I never heard of an Iriver or a creative breaking. Both me and my sister have had Creatives for about 3 years now and they're perfect.

I'm the opposite. I have an iPod and it has worked fine for over 2 years and I love it, couldn't live without it. I know 3 or 4 people that have been through 3 or 4 creative zen's though.

You mean iTunes? You don't have to use iTunes.

Two of my friends didn't want iPods because they didn't want to use iTunes, but they ended up breaking down and buying them and are quite happy with their purchases. One decided iTunes isn't so bad after all and the other just uses a different program. Many of my friends use programs other than iTunes, actually.

Yeah, that's such a good question I knew someone would ask it. :) I don't know the answer though. I don't keep up with all those programs since I don't use them. I'll let you know if I find out.

Well, I just asked one friend and he said he uses something called mediamonkey. I know there are other programs too; an internet search would probably find them pretty easily.

Personally, I don't see any problem with iTunes anyway. I used to be anti-iPod myself - but that was before I actually had one. I am extremely happy with my iPod as well as with iTunes. Just do a little bit of research online and you can really learn a lot about them.

    Good luck! :)

Very content with my iPod. I had a 20GB for about three years and recently bought a new touch. Nothing wrong with my old one, in fact I sold it to a friend and now they love it.

Never really understood all the iPod hate.... It's a great device that's easy to use, and lets me take my music anywhere. Not sure why anyone even considers buying anything else.

you know, it really is a wonder that we get along at all.
i'm going to bring my macbook if i come to wpb, and my ipod. and i think i have a few apple stickers laying around, i'ma slap it on your back when i give you a hug.

i love iTunes, i'm not sure what other music playing programs there are lately, but all the ones i used until i started using iTunes, were terrible. About them breaking, I've had one break before but that was only because it accidentally hurled across my room when i was making my bed. Other than that my new (year old) one has been fine :)
And from what i've learned, iPods can be dropped in toilets and still survive.

I like non-Apple mp3 players. I like how they function as external hard drives. I can drag files directly on to my Creative, and then view the files once they are on the player. My iPod player only allows me to drag from iTunes, and then when the files are on the iPod, I can't view them as the original file names. Plus, if I rebuild my PcC and connect the iPod, I'm forced to start the download process all over again.

    +1 QFT!

Do not get an ipod. They and their software are totally user friendly, especially when getting music from more than one pc.

I love my iPod! It's been tough and reliable. I've had no problem with multiple iPods on one computer. The manual setting is not hard to handle at all!
