.... since when can you not use iPods as external hardrives? thats how i transferred ALL my projects for my digital media class from my laptop to my school computer...

I just know that when I tried to open my iPod from my computer, all the song names were encrypted, and I couldn't see what was where...

I don't think there's too much to go wrong with getting an IPod. Setting it up can be frustrating, and the whole Itunes/mp4 thing is kind of like a monopoly. But it's good.

I've only skimmed over the thread so apologies, but if you're into video, I'd reccomend the Creative Zen Vision M (bit of a mouthful). I think the 80GB version is cheaper than the Ipod version, and the battery life is far more superior. It looks a bit clunky but it worked well for me (until someone stole it!).

Its music I'll be using it for only really and just for car or journey. I will listen to cds or other areas.

Is there a device so that it can be worked off cd players in a house?( I bought the one for the car)

    Id go with the ipod
    I love mine

yes they are expensive, you need to upgrade the headphones and they do have problems

but they are easy to use and more people use ITunes than any other-allows for an easier exchange of music

Really? That is the biggest complaint i have with my iPod. The exchange of music is so much more difficult than a "non-iPod" mp3 player. My experience anyway

Every time that I got to install software for an newer version I get an unknown error occured {1413)

I go to restore it and the same thing comes up. I had upload around 1500 songs on to it yesterday and I have nothing on it now.

Also should I not use sync if I delate song off my computer as they would be erased off my i-pod?

If you erase a song off your computer it erases it off your ipod as well so i find it better to turn sync off.

I just bought the 160 gig version to have my whole library lossless...I am converted. I love it, sound is great. Though no Flac support I have been happy. It does hang up from time to time because the album art feature takes up a lot of data(but it is so cool seeing album covers again, but I have been nothing but happy with mine so far. I did not want to get one, looked into to all the alternative, but comparing it do Cowan, Zune, and a few others there was just no comparison for what you get in price and user ease. Now that it can play gapless audio just no reason not to get one

    Go For it.

I have a zen creative v, which I like and an 80 gig ipod classic. I love both of them and they are both easy to use.
when you get confused just listen to the music play........

I dropped $250+ for a 4GB Nano Ipod in April 2006. I dropped $250+ for an 80GB Classic Ipod September 2007. I sold the 4GB Nano for $80 (off craigslist) - which went towards music to put on the new ipod. Since September, I've gone from a little over 1000 songs to a whopping 13,000 songs, with 22GB remaining.
I have a list of albums I uploaded since last September (some I've already deleted and burnt to disc). http://www.myspace.com/bill10
