I Had To Evacuate My Home Last Night!!!

HOLY SHIT!!!! There are some severe wild fires in the area that started due to some down transformers due to a high wind storm we had here yesterday. At one time, we had gusts up to 70mph!! So the area we live in was looking like it was going to be spared until the wind, which was blowing east just in front of us, decided it was going to shift due south, right in our direction! So we are watching the news and they kept extending the area to evacuate, and then they just decided that our whole area should go as a precaution.

It was just like something out of a movie. A sherriff came through the neighborhood with his intercom/bullhorn and said

"This is the Spokane Valley Sherriffs office you need to evacuate the area now. Do not try and pack or load any personal possesions, grab your id, your animals, and yourselves and go now!"

What a helpless feeling, I'll tell you. So I grab the dogs, my ss card, a laptop and some clothes, and we got the hell out. Ended up staying at my moms last night and they let us back in this morning about 6. It didnt get closer than about 1/2 a mile, but it was close enough for me!! hahaha...Debris flying through the air and blowing around, and I was just hoping it wasnt a ember or something that was going to land on my roof and send the whole thing up!! The winds have died down, but the fire rages on at this point. Somewhere between 1500-2000 acres so far, but they THINK thery are going to have a handle on it sometime today if there are no unforseen issues. It was crazy!! WHEW!!! I am off to work for a few hours. I am beat as I only got about 2 hours of sleep. The dogs were freaking, plus my sister and her kids were there as well as they had to go to.

CRAZY CRAZY NIGHT!!!

PS...If you dont have an emergency plan for evacuation in place, DO IT!! You never know when something like this could happen. We didnt, but we got lucky!! Hug someone you love today! :D

How scary. Glad you're ok. :) I hate fires. We had friends/family evacuated last year in San Diego.

Might this be in reference to how long PJ's been living in Spokane Valley?

  • I think the bigger question is,
with all those posters, boots, and collectible merchandise,
this chump grabs his SOCIAL SECURITY CARD!

Im'a just come right out and say it:

    YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN.
    ;)

    Clearly,
a REAL fan would have grabbed his JUNX ...
a hand full of posters, the Ten basketball, maybe a Reenk Roink,
    SOMETHING ...

    but NO.
He goes for his freaking laptop, a social security card,
    AND A DOG?

    A DOG?

    C'mon dude.
    The dog has legs.
If it don't have the sense to get the hell out,
    then what do you care?

    Sheesh.

    Uh.
    Okay.
I took that WAY too far.

    Hope the house is okay.
Ok, fine ... AND the dog!

    Seriously though,
    SOCIAL SECURITY CARD?

    :D:D:D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

next time consider adding a smiley ... the internet can be hard to read past the words... your post sounded like you were just trying to be obnoxious when he was telling us about having to evacuate his home.... just my 2 cents.

I hope all is ok my friend. I think its time you pack up all those posters and rare items and send them to good old South Jersey for backup purposes. I am sure my kids wont whip out their crayons and add their artwork to them....

in all seriousness, my thoughts are with you and your family/neighbors. Be Sound

Sucks, doesn't it? I've had to evacuate due to fires more times than I can count. Just another reason why I want to leave California...immediately.

Glad you're safe! I can't believe how early the wildfires are blazing this summer, and in Spokane Valley no less. I would never have guessed.

My husband just reassured me that we'll do okay in an emergency.

While I was off gallivanting in NYC our building had to evacuate. My man grabbed our two dogs and threw our cat into his backpack. That's all he took out with him. Fuck everything else. I honestly feel a little better knowing that if our building does go up in flames, we will be able to get us and ALL of our pets out.

Good advice on having that plan together.

Good luck with the wildfire season.
Walking can be a real trip

I'm glad you're well! I can relate...living in good ole So Cal, I've been evacuated twice the last few years, so I've got my own fire plan as well. It's a scary time, but what a relief when everything is okay. Both times I relaxed so much when I got home. It just sucks it takes a fire passing by to get my body to relax like that...now if I could only have that feeling all the time. :p
