Tex's diving play was pretty outstanding as well.

No he wasn't. Don't be blinded by the pinstripes>
He was holding the runner on 2nd, that's why he was in that position.

Without CC the series would still be going.

A-Rod has a great series but CC was lights out.

It's going to be really hard for Philadelphia to beat the Yankees when they face CC 3 times.

    That guy is a bull.

Without Alex hitting the home run in Game 2. The Yankees would probably be down 3-2 or maybe even lose in Anaheim.

It feels a little like christmas eve. With all the anticipation in the air.

Last night i went full yankee geek and made what i think is their best 25 man roster. I tried to stick mostly with guys who have played with the team most of their years with some exceptions. I put a lot of emphasis on ERA+ and OPS+ to help compare stats over multiple eras. Also i tried to put a team together that made sense (except for having 4 left handed starters in the rotation but hey i thought they were the best)

Here is who i came up with

    SS- Derek Jeter
    LF- Joe DiMaggio
    RF- Babe Ruth
    1B- Lou Gehrig
    CF- Mickey Mantle
    3B- Alex Rodriguez
    C- Yogi Berra
    2B- Tony Lazzeri
    DH- Don Mattingly

    Bench-
    OF- Charlie Keller
    OF- Reggie Jackson
    2B- Willie Randolph
    2B.3B.SS- Gil McDonald
    C- Bill Dickey

    SP- Whitey Ford
    SP- Spud Chandler
    SP- Lefty Gomez
    SP- Ron Guidry
    SP- Andy Pettitte

RP- Allie Reynolds (long reliever spot starter role)
    RP- Johnny Murphy
    RP- Dave Righetti
    RP- Sparky Lyle
    RP- Goose Gossage
    Closer- Mariono Rivera

So i'm sure a lot of spots are debatable. I struggled between Reggie Jackson and Earle Combs. In the end I thought a clutch bat off the bench was better then a slick fielder when you have two of the best centerfielders in the line up already. Tony Lazzeri i think was statistically a little worse then Joe Gordan, Lazzeri was basically a life long yankee so i gve him the nod. I then chose Gil McDonald over Gordan because Gil is a great bench guy since he played 3 positions. When i decided not to take Combs i wanted someoen with a little speed on the bench and thus took Randolph over Gordan. Bill Dickey probably should start, but Yogi just feels better to me. I'm sure they can both play a lot during the year.

I wish i coudld find spot for munson, but Dickey and Yogi are just so much better. Not to mention posada and elston howard were no slouches either. Yankees have had a lot of good catchers.

It hurt not having a spot for Bernie Williams or Paul O'neil but the outfield competition was so strong.

Only thing i don't like about the bullpen is Goose, Sparky and Righetti all spent a good bit of time wiht other teams, but that was how baseball started to get in the late 70's and 80's when they played.

I'm sure arguments can be made but i feel pretty good about this team.

Oh and yes i had nothing better to do with my time last night.

Donnie and Bernie's stats are very similar. The biggest difference is in their Walk and K numbers. Bernie had a whole lot more of both.

yeah, push comes to shove i think the advantage goes to bernie. switch hitter, fast/smart baserunner, 4 time world series champion. the guy's name has to come up when you talk about all time great yankees. certainty the best yankee of my generation.

tough break for mattingly, he was stuck on the yanks during a very dark period for the franchise.

    Thanks Dude

My Birthday is next Friday, so my Brother ate up some of the cost as a gift. We were gonna go by stub hub(they have service fees of $60+ per single ticket) on top of minimum $350 as of now  wtf is that about. We went thru ebay, and got decent seats for around $300 a pc.

I think you both make a great point about bernie and i like him a lot, but i don't like him more then don mattingly for the team.

Reason- If you put bernie on the team it has three out fielders and no true backup at 1B in case lou goes down. Don gives you 9 gold gloves at 1b and compariable hitting stats to bernie. Good point about bernie being a switch hitter, but a fully healthy don mattingly to me is better then bernie williams ever was. Remember before Don got injuried he won a MVP award. Closest bernie ever got to an mvp was 7th in 1998 his best statistical year. Donnie finsihed in the top 5 three times including his win and his second place finish in back to back years.

Truthfully i wanted a back up first baseman and donnie is the best the yanks have outside of Lou. Plus he can play thrid if needed. I saw no need for 3 OF's with two CF already on the team. So Bernie would have to beat out Keller or REggie to make the team. Keller like Mattingly was a victom of injuries and the stats he could have amassed could have been amazing. In retrospect thanks to your criticisim i probably think i should have Keller in the starting line up now over Donnie.

Truthfully i'm not sure if i wouldn't want earle combs on the team before bernie though. If i was taking another CF that would be a tough choice

I think it speaks volumes to the teams history that a great player like bernie doesn't make the team.
