Alsoa lot of parents are apparently proud of their kids if they're making out with their girlfriend/boyfriend at age 9 or they're proud if the kid is known as the bully. I mean what is up with all this?

Oh, and that is fucked up!

Yes, the 80s were the best time to be a child. And the 90s were the best time to be in high school and college.

My dad worked in education from the early 60s until 1997 and this was the biggest change he saw over the span of his career. When he started, parents were supportive of teachers/administrators where grades and discipline were concerned, but by the time he retired, the parent would take the kids side more often than not. Personally, I think that is one of the biggest reasons our education system is failing.

from what I've heard, parent interference is HUGE problem nowadays.

My sister says its the worst part of her job. The thought of dealing with idiot parents is one of the reasons I haven't (yet) become a teacher.

Ain't that the truth. I remember getting in trouble in class when I was in middle school and I will never forget the look on my dad's face or the sound of his voice (plus when dad ever called you by your first and middle name you knew you were dead) when he found out that I disrupted Mrs. Whatevers class. And there wasn't an ounce of maybe it was the teachers fault. If I got in trouble it was all on me. Now, I know that is a little old school but I never got in trouble again. Nowadays these kids are never held responsible for their actions and it paints a terrible picture of what the real world is like.

my teacher friends say that too. one of them is probably the best teacher in the state and she's considering leaving. it's not what she signed up for.

another great thing about the 70's ,anybody here ever hear of cut day it used to happen at the high school i attended ,we did it for the juniors and seniors man what a scene we would collect money from the whole student body like a week or two before the party usually around early june ,we would get enough money for 12 to 15 kegs of beer and usually a 1/4 or 1/2 lb of weed and have a huge party at the local beach park ,even the cops would just stop by and make sure that there weren't any fights and just make sure we would clean up afterwards ,you couldn't do anything close to this in the late 80's or never now .....best times

JEM was truly, truly, truly outrageous.

I was Jem on three or four Halloween's during the 80s. I think I'll be Jem this year as well...or maybe She-Ra?

Rio was my first crush. It was all about his purple hair...staight pimpin.

I agree, I think it was the best decade. It's a different world today. We used to have to actually call our friends to hang out, and you couldn't call after a certain time? And you addressed your friends' parents as Mr and Mrs so-and-so.
And everything wasn't so oriented on being online and texting and what not.

And what about the music? And the beginning of mtv? Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, U2..
music came out on actual albums? I still say 'records' to this day

and what about the movies? Back to the Future? the John Hughes movies? Flashdance? FAME!

and growing up in the 80's means I was fortunate enough hear all the great music of the 90's, at the time it all originated!

oh yeah and all the neon fashions? The plastic bracelets? The Madonna wannabe look? Madonna had a clothing line! Leggings? Stirrup pants? Wow!

Jem and She-Ra were my absolute favs. I loved He-man too. it was cool if you had a boy and a girl in the family because then you got both he-man and she-ra stuff and you could combine them and make like their whole universe.

(p.s. I've attempted the she-ra halloween costume. it's harder than it looks)

the toys in the 80s were definitely the coolest. do you remember those things...I can't remember...pogo balls? it was like a ball with a platform and you hopped on it and jumped around? I loved that thing.

I was He-Man or one of the Duke boys for Halloween every year. And speaking of Halloween remember those old plastic Halloween costumes. They were great. The masks had this strings that were staples on and always broke..LOL
