Phantom Pain

What do you do for a depressed dog ???

My dog has been depressed now for days

We were watching a friends of ours Golden while she was in the hospital last week and returned their dog on Saturday....the 2 dogs are great friends

Now, they're both moping around and not even playing :(

I feel bad....

Our pooch has a highly theatrical "mope mode." She always gets over it . It's all acting with our girl. "What do you mean I can't go in the car?" "Is that all the steak I can have?" "Bath day, again?" It never lasts long so, hopefully, your doggies will snap out of it.

Ridin The Wave

Does anybody know anything here about which dogs are better for those with dog allergies? I've been to all the sites and read as much as I can, but I'm looking for more info specifically on Labs. I really want one, but my boyfriend is allergic. The lists basically tell you the worst to have and the best to have and all the dogs in between aren't mentioned at all.

OKay, I seriously don't know what to do now. I'm EXHAUSTED. I came home from work this evening, and she had peed in her run and laid down in it and was soaking wet. My house reeked and I had to give her a bath, which was a nightmare. I walked/ran with her for probably about 45 minutes (after running for her with a half hour this morning), and she still would not calm down. I don't know if it's an "adjustment period" or what, but I know my father had similar problems with her which is why he wanted to get rid of her so badly.

Labradoodles are meant to be hair-dropping free and good for people with allergies, and they look super cool! Its yet another dog i want when i get my glorious farm (in my dreams anyway)

You are going to have a period of adjustment that may last a couple of months, so lots of patience will be key to really bonding closely. You want to try and keep things very positive for now, lots of praise and get some tiny treats you can reward every good thing she does, all the time. Can you crate her vs. the run? Give her less space to mess up. She is a breed that is soooo hard to give enough exercise time, figure she is bred to run in subzero weather all day long every day! I would suggest doing the two walks/runs each day. Can you find a place to let her play with other dogs, a doggie park(ask at your local pet store if there is one near by)? How about a place to run her off lead, maybe a place with some hiking trails that you could go to on the weekends. Teach her to play Frisbee or ball and try to spend a good 15 minutes a day playing that with her, if you don't have a fenced area you can attach a long line to her and keep the end by you so if she runs too far....you can pull her back in. Also get a really nice tug toy....keep that just for playing tug...you can initiate that play a couple of times a day...it will helps wear her out.

Have you signed up for an obedience class yet...that will be VERY important for you and her right now. Also I would implement the NILIF program with her...it helps teach who is the boss with out doing that alpha garbage. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

Also start taking her everywhere with you. Get her used to all your friends houses, going in stores that allow her and lots of car time. If she doesn't walk well on the leash...I have suggestions for that too!

Make sure you have lots of chew toys and stuffies. Have some other chew things like Kongs(stuffed with Peanut Butter or frozen canned dog food), bully sticks, etc that you can hand out to her if you need a bit of time to do something.

The more fun and interesting you make her life....the better she will behave and love her mommy!
