Mama Aussie gave birth yesterday to 7 girls and 3 boys. We will be getting one of the girls 2 months from now. Can't wait! Our dog currently looks like a drowned mouse but here's what we envision when she's ready to come home with us:
I wish we could have gotten a rescue and I have nothing but praise for those of you (norm, unlost, enkidu, etc.) who have rescued, but here's why we didn't......sad to say, we didn't want a pit mix or a chihuahua (or even a lab). We also wanted an 8 week old puppy (ask me about this when the pup is driving me crazy). I also rationalize this by feeling that any dog cute enough for us will get rescued anyway. Kind of a cop out, I know, but we DO know our new puppy will be falling into an absolute bed of roses!

Instead of red tri the brown ones are called sable and white, although they often have a touch of black. There are also sable merles but they aren't very common. We've had 2 sables, 3 tris, 2 blue merles and 1 double merle (mostly white with only a little color, caused by a cross between 2 merles). I wrote a story about our double merle, Tess.
There are also shelties called bi-blacks or bi-blues, meaning they are bi-color and don't have any tan in their coats. I've only seen them at dog shows.

I love watching puppies play like that! We've had mixed experiences with our puppies, with most of them crying a lot the first night. On his first night here, Django just curled up in front of the fire liked he owned the place and that's pretty much been his attitude since. )
