Its been a hott minute since I've been here! I cant BELIEVE the Brian story!!!!! Thank god he's ok!!!! And yes, hug those doggies!!!! Tuesday was the 6th year that my Surfer has been gone. Its tough because he is never forgotten. little Matty has been great at keeping me occupied with doggie hugs lately  He is much, MUCH, smaller than Surfer but he is sooooooooo cute!I need to post some pics.

And wow, poor Gracie!!!!!! Hug her for me!!!

Getting my dog fixed. my wife made an appointment for next week but Lyla hasn't had her first "cycle". Should I hold off until she does?

NO! Spaying her before her first heat eliminates the risk of breast cancer. It rarely occurs in dogs who are spayed after they have been in season but it can. Several years ago, I lost a dog that had been spayed to breast cancer. Don't risk it.

Yuki will still be way ahead of the game so you go ahead and spay her. It's not common for dogs who've been spayed to have breast cancer.

I adopted Tess when she was a little over a year old and had had a litter of puppies, so I didn't have a chance to spay her sooner. She developed an aggressive form of breast cancer when she was about 11 and was gone in the blink of an eye. My vet says he has only seen a few cases in dogs who are spayed after they've been in season. But dogs who have never been in heat have no risk of breast cancer.

Believe me, my little girl suffered a lot and there was nothing we could do for her.

I have a bad habit of being kinda preachy.

I'm just a big advocate of spay/neuter, not just to reduce overpopulation but because it's so important for your dog's health.

The health think is a biggy for me. We didn't get Molly done until this year (She's 3 now :) ) and when they got in there to whip everything out she had a nasty infection in her womb! So glad we did it when we did otherwise we might have lost her. It would have been devastating!!
