Before the other two trouble makers came along Bubba had a bear. Beside chewing off the plastic nose and ears she kept it in one piece for a couple of years until Ringo and Orbit got hold of it. So we got her Grumbles and that's her toy only. The other destroyers aren't allowed near it. So far so good. If we put it in the corner of the room and ask her "Where's Grumbles?" she'll go and get it and bring it back to her bed. The ears have been chewed a little but I expected that.

Over time we've had Ducky, Frogger, Bear and cow.

Grumbles got his name because he looks like he's in a bad mood all the time :lol:

Sophie would so fit right in with Gracie and sasha. With the leaves almost all gone, she is now pulling on the branches just to get a stick she can chew on, it's really kinda funny to watch.

    Happy Birthday Petey

He is so beautiful, regal, a good boy, you were blessed to call him yours.

We lost Maggie and Scout just before their 5th birthdays also,
that was a dog's lifetime ago but the loss remains.

I am sorry he had less time but I know he had no less love.

Thanks for sharing so we can all celebrate his life, your love and
appreciate our time with our own, however long.

Last night I chose life vs a needle for my 16 yr old dog.

It was a 2000 dollar decision. Money I don't have.

I am not convinced it is her time.

    Not yet.

    bless your heart,

you have been choosing for her for 16 years and know her best and what is best

if the quality of her life is good she can enjoy more time with you

Thank you for your kind words. Means so much.

This is my very first dog, and she has been with me since 1997. I rescued her when she was 1 1/2 yrs old. I knew the day would come...but really? How do you prepare for this type of thing?!

I have not slept since Tuesday nite. She turned a bad corner on Weds eve, and ever since then I haven't been able to shut one eye, forget about 2.

She is on oxygen at the clinic while Mommy tries to get a bit of rest.

They sent me home to get sleep. Was up all night talking to the emergency vet throughout the nite.

Sooner or later, I will have to come to a decision as her quality of life is in question. I'm choosing "later" as I just want to bring her home already, which will be at 6pm.

I'm so anxious that attempting to sleep btwn now and then is practically futile. I just want her back.

When I saw her empty bed last nite (she spent overnite in the ICU), I broke down.

I'm not ready to see that bed empty yet.

Here in the thread you will find so many who know just how you feel.
    Including me.

I am so sorry for this ache and there is no preparation that I have found.

Having lost many dogs now, untimely and from old age,
I want to say each one really lives on with me.
Sounds corny but my Charlie, who's time was this past June, is with me so clearly
and I can smile because of the love that stays.

You will forever have your girls love, this can not be taken from you
and one day that love will make you smile.

Enjoy the time you have until you or she are ready to part.
This time is precious and will help you through.

Please come here and share as we all feel with you.

    Hugs to you

and I spent $6000 in vet bills and another $1000 or so on meds and vitamins for Petey's DCM although we knew that there was no saving him, only buying him more time. He last 20 months. Each one of them was precious.

and can i please say how IMPORTANT it is to ADOPT a dog? Theres so many that need homes yet people STILL feel the need to go out & BUY one from a pet store!!!!! ADOPT A DOG!!!!! call your local animal shelter!!!! Please?!?! :D

Yes adopt rather than buy. So many need homes.

I'm just starting to go thru this thread which dates back to 2005!! Wow!

If you want, you can add my doggie Bailey. It's a female Siberian Husky born Feb 25, 1996. My old princess.

She is at home, resting comfortably, occasionally glaring at me. Yep, she's herself. She always gives a glare or 2 at me after having to deal with vets and poking and prodding.

I just don't believe it was her time, and judging by the way she dragged me out of the clinic tonight, Husky style, ......I would say I was right, even $ 2200 later.

Cant wait to go thru this 550 page thread and see everyone's dogs.

Thanks for all of your kind words and support. :P

    Thank you, Claire.

and to whom asked earlier, I will try to upload pics of Bailey on here. She's a real beauty.

We just got back from the clinic to take her IV catheter and her nasal O2 tube out...and her elizabethan collar off.

I think the link is on the first page, right, to upload pics, right?

    I will try that.

Gotta give the doggie meds now. She's on a Ventolin puffer now too. :(

I've only gone through about 7 pages,....out of 550

Actually this thread is really enjoyable, because animals, not only doggies, are my thing.

Sigh, wish I could turn back time and become a vet.

A little hard to become one at 40.

Plus I don't have the $$$ to go into veterinary medicine.

Pics of Bailey coming up...bear with me as I completely suck at computers. :?
