    I think you mean GOALIE.
Turco will be peppered with shots from the Wings.
Osgood will just have to stop the 15-20 shots he
    will face.
When Turco was at Michigan he played well at JLA.
But his pro career has been at little different, 0-7-2
    at JLA.

    Go Wings.

I don't think you'll be saying this after friday.

trust me i will. i just hope that the Refs are not against hitting. let the game go. let's see if Crosby and Malkin can handle hits because from what i have seen so far they can't.

My "educated guess" is saying Wings vs Pens for the Cup after the Conference Finals. Having guessed that, you can probably expect a Stars vs Flyers Finals!

I do hate the Red Wings, but I'll be the 1st to say when they're clicking, they're very difficult (if not impossible) to beat. The puck control is beautiful to watch, and appreciate.

Well the Wings took care of business last night.
    Wings looked rusty,Stars looked tired.
I expect a better game out of Dallas on Sat.
Still the Red Wings are a tough team.
Even with Ott trying to stir up shit.
Playing goon Winchester did nothing for Dallas,
and Turco's streak is still in tact.
    Great save on Zetterberg though.
Boy this thread slows down once people's teams are eliminated.

    Go Wings.

Refs seemed to help the Wings a fair bit.
That said, I think the Wings would have won handily without their help.

    Well,maybe on the Holmstrom goal.
There were a few against the Wings(Lidstrom's) that were crap.
I wish they were more consistent.
Dallas had four chances but the Wings penalty kill was
    fantastic.

Holmstrom in the blue, the TSN folks kept referring to another one but never showed it.
How about the roughing call to give the Wings a 5 on 3? No way, Jose!

yeah that roughing call early in the game was weak... just McCreary trying to show that he was on the ice and was going to make a difference last night.

    Yes and yes.

The Wings are just not a good match for the Stars. And I don't know what Marty's deal is in that building. I said Wings in 6 earliers, but it may be 5.

I think game 2 will be see a better effort from both teams, but it doesn't look like the officiating will be what everyone on all sides wants it to be this year.

    Agreed on both points.

You know the NHL would love nothing better than Wings vs. Penguins in the finals though. Their last choice would be Stars vs. Flyers.

Two of those goals last night should not have been, but I am not going to blame everything on the officials. The Stars showed a distinct lack of energy and would have lost anyway.

    Agreed.
It can be argued that the refs aren't really needed to set that up though, evne though the Stars did knock off the Sharks and Ducks...

I don't think the league would mind the Flyers being their (large market and young marketable players) but it would put a big kink in their golden boy Sid marketing campaign ;)

You mean like that Ovechkin campaign? Yeah, they made sure he stayed around a while.

    Conspiracy theorists be damned!

You guys do realize that the Penguins had a pretty decent year, both with and without Crosby, right?

Do you honestly believe that the league isn't hoping for a Detroit/Pittsburgh final??? I'm not saying they are doing anything out of bounds to secure but I can surely bet they are hopeful of that outcome.

I don't doubt that the Pens/Wings is the preferred matchup, just like MLB wants Sox/Yanks in the ALCS and the NBA wants Celtics/Lakers in the finals.

My point is that the Pens had an unbelievable year and were within a point of being first overall in the East. It's not like they got in by the skin of their teeth. Now that Montreal is out, a Pens/Wings matchup would put the two best remaining teams based on the regular season, so I find it amusing that people would suggest that they need assistance to stay alive.

That being said, did anyone else notice how empty Detroit's stadium was last night? I was listening to Razor on The Ticket this morning, and apparently the economy has gotten so harsh that people in Michigan can't really afford the games. That's heartbreaking to me, because Detroit is a great team, and their fans should be there to enjoy their team's success.

The Stars played the first period like they were in shock. They started to show life in the middle of the second, but it was too late by then. I know they can shake it off, especially Marty. Marty's better than some superstition or a bunch of people chanting "Turco." (How unfortunate that he has a two-syllable name. :p)

Yeah, I noticed that last night and heard that discussion this morning. That is sad. It only looked about half full.

Agreed on the 2nd point too. They did look overwhelmed for awhile. After they got their one goal they definitely picked it up and started to play better, but by then it was too late.

As far as shaking it off, I don't know. Detroit is so much better that the two teams the Stars knocked off.

Yes it is to bad that Joe Louis wasn't filled.
The Wings have nobody but themselves to blame.
They rode a very successful team to long and raised ticket prices
to high. They were to slow to adjust to a failing economy.
Highest unemployment in the U.S. I believe.
They tried a few gimmicks during the season($9.00 nosebleed seats).
Playoff tickets were lowered this year,
    but it isn't enough.

Also the fans are a little spoiled.
The mentality in Detroit has become finals or its a lost season.
Who wants to spend $195.00-$215.00 per seat for game 1.
Or $70.00-$75.00 for the cheap seats.
Gotta admit the game was a little boring.
That being said I'm sure game 5 or 7 if necessary will have more people attending.
Also I'm sure Os--good will get the same treatment in Dallas.

    Go Wings.
