Funny I saw this as a preview while at the movies to see Hancock last Saturday. I almost posted it here, but figure everyone knew already. Looks like I would've beaten the 'Official' thread!

We have known about it for a couple of months. The official thread is late. There are a few threads already on it. I think they only have made an official thread because Ed is now going to probably perform on the TV show.

I was in the theater yelling "Wow! The song!!!! That's Vedder!". I think I was the only one in the theater who noticed or cared, but still rad surprise!

I heard/saw this last night in the theatre (took my kids to a movie). I freaked out when I heard the first note. My son had to tell me to calm down. I think he was a little embarassed :(

    But man, it was great!

Do wish Ed would use this platform to re-invent his own habits as well. What was cool and hip in the late 80's early 90's (smoking and rock and roll) is now officially beat. Come on man, you can do it!!!
  • anyone know if this commercial will make it to TV?

  • Great to hear...anything done against cancer is fantastic...
It's funny when things change so much
    It's all state of mind

Don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff

You think you hate it now, wait till you drive it...

Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
  • With the deepest respect to people dealing with cancer and its survivors, I have to say i was still really put off when I heard the song being used. Despite its positive message, its still an AD!! And it was really disturbing to hear a song that means something to you being used for "a message," however noble. It really bothered me, I have to be honest.

    Okay it's an AD.

NOW TELL US WHAT'S IT SELLING?

It is being used for the fight against the most deadly disease on our planet, it is an honor for them to want to use this song.

I loved these songs also, but they were written specifically for specific movie scenes. We know what these songs are about and who they are about. Hell, Ed even had a time limit these songs had to be. It's not like the interpretation will be affected. Your really reaching here.

I didn't get a response from 10C when I asked if we could form a 10C team, so I invite you all to join the team I started for my friend.
    It's called Learning Daily.
    Thanks!

but as a very recent cancer patient, "Rise" has meant something to me in relation to my cancer journey since I first heard it. Maybe it means something different to others who hear it, but if you have had cancer and listen to the words...it makes me tear up every time I hear it, but with a smile.

I think that anything that gets people involved with cancer research and destroying the f*cker once and for all is a wonderful thing! Maybe younger people will become more aware of how it affects us all and carry that on when us old people are outta here?

BTW...the Stand Up to Cancer site has some pretty cool stuff in their store. I just bought a t-shirt, hat and sticker. See? That's an advertisement. :)

Thought I might mention that I went to my first 3-month appointment today after finishing treatment, and I am so healthy that I don't need to be seen for 4 months!!!

    Take care,
I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.

It's always such a wonderful feeling when an artist you admire and respect does something amazing as a reminder why they inspire you.

    Absolutely!

Healing thoughts to you, kcherub. Your post was quite touching.

I was lucky enough to be able to save 10 extra Sniper programs from Eddie's tour from going in the trash at The Auditorium Theater in Chicago.
I was there with my friend, Cindy, who is currently battling cancer. Therefore, Eddie's involvement with Stand Up To Cancer means even more to us than it normally would.
I invite you to join the SU2C group I started, called Learning Daily, in honor of Cindy and Eddie.
You could also just make a donation, if you don't want to join. However, please use the donation link from our group's page so that we will get credited for it in our tally.
Even better, join AND make a donation!
Leave me a comment and give your board name.
I will send the top 10 responses a program.
    Thanks!

It already was my favorite from ITW! Ed said he thinks it's one of the best songs he's ever had anything to do with.

Yes it has....I JUST saw it on CTV here in Canada.
I have to work Sept 5th (Heart is at the Ampitheatre), but I'm going to see if my roomie can record it on her DVD recorder for me...failing that I can set my VCR.

there was an ad in this week's Us Weekly (with Shannen Doherty on the cover) for the program that lists him as one of the performers.

  • This is for such a great casue. My grandmother passed away from breast cancer when I was only nine years old. Almost twenty years now and it still feels like yesterday.
