EDDIE VEDDER'S RISE USED TO RAISE CANCER AWARENESS

"Rise", from Eddie Vedder's soundtrack to "Into the Wild" is being used to raise awareness and resources to fight cancer. For more information, please visit StandUp2Cancer.org.

PSA includes: Christy Turlington, Susan Sarandon, Michael Bloomberg, Christina Ricci, Tilda Swinton, Morgan Freeman, Keanu Reeves, Casey Affleck, Lance Armstrong, Jodie Foster, Tobey Maguire, Tony Hawk and Sydney Poitier

OVERVIEW
SU2C is founded on the belief that there is now sufficient knowledge of the basic science of cancer and that technologies are available to allow the focused practical application and proximal translation of even more basic science knowledge to patients with cancer. Furthermore, the successful application of this knowledge will result in more rapid advances in the treatment of patients and the prevention of cancer in those individuals who are at risk. The purpose of SU2C is to establish and support a focused and intense effort to effect these advances as rapidly as possible. SU2C believes that it can benefit the most patients by accelerating the course of cancer research through raising philanthropic dollars and developing unique mechanisms to utilize these funds. This novel approach is being designed in a way that will lead to the rapid funding of innovative ideas without bureaucratic delays. SU2C will utilize mechanisms to foster collaboration of the most talented and promising researchers across institutions; a team-oriented approach that promotes the sharing of information rather than inter-individual competition; and a goal-oriented focus on key problems in cancer designed with measurable milestones of progress. SU2C is committed to identifying the most promising opportunities and leveraging its fiscal and management resources to achieve a paradigm shift in clinical cancer research. SU2C is committed to transparency and high-quality science in its funding activities and believes that this can be accomplished within the framework of a truly innovative approach to support SU2C-funded research.

SU2C funds will support research projects conducted by interdisciplinary, multi-institutional translational and clinical research "Dream Teams" and high-risk Innovative Research Grants from which ideas for new Dream Teams may arise. Grants management and expert review will be conducted via a nimble, rapid, flexible, and transparent process carried out by a "Blue Ribbon" Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of about 15 highly accomplished clinical investigators, senior laboratory researchers, and physician-scientists and 2 patient advocates.

That's really great to hear! I love how Eddie always stands up for all the right things! And Rise is such a good song too. And I really like that it says it's idea is to have all the top researchers work together rather than compete against each other, that's really smart, they should really stop competing against each other and trying to see which will be the first one to break the mystery and what not, it should really be a team effort, so I really like that notion....it's a very good cause and Amen to that yahamita! We should all RISE up!

Thanks to Eddie and the Pearl Jam site for their link to the standup2cancer website. It opens the door for people to donate to find a cure to that deadly disease. It opened up my eyes on how important finding a cure is and I'm now planning to have a collectivity and raise funds for that organization, that with all the medias involve (CBS, NBC and ABC) could open up more eyes.
Everybody knows someone who had cancer, look up the numbers.

As a cancer survivor, I really appreciate Ed's contribution with this inspirational song. It would have lifted my spirit during a very black time for me. Thanks Ed for the support. Also has anyone caught the intro to Cordoruy on the new commercial for conservation with Harrison Ford - my 12 yr old caught it immediately. Sorry if that's been mentioned already.

Funny I saw this as a preview while at the movies to see Hancock last Saturday. I almost posted it here, but figure everyone knew already. Looks like I would've beaten the 'Official' thread!

I was in the theater yelling "Wow! The song!!!! That's Vedder!". I think I was the only one in the theater who noticed or cared, but still rad surprise!
