so last night i went to the projekt revolution tour stop at jones beach. cornell does a good set, mixing in some of his new songs (which aren't as bad as the little snippet ive previously heard) with the classics. . .so he does "hunger strike" and chester bennington from linkin park comes out to trade verses with him taking ed's spot. . .chester did a good job with it, he's got a pretty good voice. . .at the end of the song when chesters walking off cornell says, and im paraphrasing forget the exact words, "chester bennington!! there's noone i'd rather do that song with!!". . . gee, what about the guy you did the song with originally?
i have wished for so long, how i wish for you today

I heard he had to pay for it since no one cares about him anymore to give him free stuff.
He's probably just jealous Ed is selling out all of these solo dates and he can't sell out a T.G.I. Friday's.
A friend, he called, I didn't mention a thing. The last thing he said was, "Be sound". Sound. I contemplated an awful thing, I hate to admit. I just thought those would be such appropriate last words. But I'm still here.

Playing devils advocate here...
Pearl Jam have stayed the same all these years. Cornell has changed. Some would say that's a good thing. Read into this as much or as little as you like, but Cornell recentelly said that some of the bands he listens to he likes a lot, but they don't leave their comfort zone and keep the same sound. Sounds like he could be talking about Pearl Jam.
As for the Linkin Park guy, I'm not a fan mself, but I did read an interview with his band after they supported PJ last year in Europe, and they were completely in awe of the band. Said something along the lines of..'we thought we were really top drawer, we watched Pearl Jam from stage side cause we had nothing better to do......afterwards we called a band meeting and said we need to shape up to be anywhere near these guys....they're different class'....along those lines anyway, so to me he's a decent, honest, egotistical, rich rock star
Pearl Jam staying in their comfort zone?
I'd hardly say that's the case given their track record:
Fighting ticketmaster, snubbing MTV and all conventional Music Press, and progressively changing their sound and style throughout their career. Sure, all of the albums are easily identified as being Pearl Jam (they haven't undergone an Ok Computer to Kid A seismic shift), but the ways in which they've experiemented musically and changed their sound since Vs. and Ten. There's still "rocker" and "anthem songs" going into every album, but the softer and more introspective songs have made up at least 50% of each album now. That's not what the "Ten fans" wanted to hear.
If they were "staying within their comfort zone", they would've continued to remake the SAME ALBUM OVER AND OVER *cough, coughCREED, cough, cough,Nickleback, cough, cough* and never evolved their sound. Some bands like Foo Fighters and Stone Temple Pilots can have the same sound perpetually and still put out consistently good music, but many bands TRY to keep their original sound and get stale because of it. If Pearl Jam never grew in the manner they did, maybe they'd be another extinct grunge band too. There's a reason they're still around......
And lastly, I love Chris Cornell, he's one of my favorite singers. But, he hasn't exactly "grown" as a musician either. Audioslave was good, but it sounded like Cornell smashed together with a bunch of Rage Against the Machine leftovers. It wasn't all that cutting edge, and it definately WASN'T as good as Soundgarden, or Rage themselves.

Notice how Ed tends to blab about how (insert opening-band here) are the greatest band ever!
They can't all be that great Ed. He's paying a compliment.
