Well, at least we now have some size WITH toughness. This team is almost getting to the point of unwatchable. Regressing instead of progressing. Guys had career years under torts and now they're shit.

yeah, this is becoming an INSANE trend.

bottom line this team needs to win games. it will be a blow to hank's ego, but fuck... start talbot for 5 straight and see how this team responds.

watch... probably with 4 goals scored a game, 90% PP, 100% PK.

The Rangers defeated the Calgary Flames, 4-3, in the shootout tonight at Madison Square Garden, as the team continued their franchise-record nine-game homestand. Benoit Pouliot notched the game-deciding goal in the seventh round of the shootout to earn the extra point for the Rangers.

    - The Blueshirts improved to 16-17-1 overall (33 pts), including a 6-9-1 mark at home this season.

    - The Rangers’ shootout tonight was their first of the season. They were the only team in the league to have not had a shootout yet this season. This was also the latest the Blueshirts have gone into a season without having a shootout, eclipsing their previous team record of 24 games in 2010-11 (2-1 SO win vs. Nashville on Nov. 27, 2010). The Rangers’ last shootout was on Apr. 10, 2013 vs. Toronto (3-2 SO win), a stretch of 41 regular season games.

    - The Rangers won their third straight game against the Flames, including each of their last two meetings at Madison Square Garden.

    - The Blueshirts and Flames have been separated by two or fewer goals in 11 of their last 13 meetings, with eight of those contests being decided by one-goal. New York is now 8-3-0-0 in games decided by two or fewer goals over the span, and 7-1-0-0 in one-goal games.

    - The Rangers out-shot the Flames, 32-21, in the contest, including a 26-10 advantage after the first period.

    - New York won 39-67 faceoffs (58.2%) in the contest, led by Dominic Moore’s game-high, 13 faceoff wins (13-17, 76.5%). The Rangers are now 201-360 (55.8%) on faceoffs in the last six games.

    - Derek Stepan notched a goal and an assist, posted a plus-two rating, and won 12-23 faceoffs (52%). The assist was his 100th career NHL assist, and he is now tied for first on the team with 16 assists and ranks second with 22 points on the season.

    - Benoit Pouliot recorded an assist and notched the game-deciding goal in the seventh round of the shootout. He has tallied three points (one goal, two assists) in his last five games. Pouliot improved to 3-9 in the shootout for his career, with all three of his goals being the game-decider.

    - Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves through regulation and overtime, and stopped four of seven shootout attempts for the win. He improved to 10-14-1 overall this season, including a 5-8-1 mark at home. Lundqvist is now 45-30 all-time in shootouts. His 45 career shootout wins are second in the NHL only to Ryan Miller’s 47 shootout wins.

    - Chris Kreider tallied the game-tying goal with 7:53 remaining in regulation, tied for the game-high with four hits, and posted a plus-two rating in 20:34 of ice time. He has now recorded five goals in the last eight games.

    - Carl Hagelin registered a goal and tied for the game-high with four shots in 16:17 of ice time. He is now tied for fourth on the team with six goals on the season.

    - Mats Zuccarello converted his shootout attempt and was credited with three hits in 18:03 of ice time, while skating in his 100th career NHL contest.

    - Rick Nash tallied an assist, three shots, and posted a plus-two rating in 20:24 of ice time. He has tallied eight points (five goals, three assists) in the last 10 games.

    - Dominic Moore tallied an assist and won a game-high, 13-17 faceoffs (76.5%) in 15:52 of ice time. He has registered a point in each of the last two games (one goal, one assist), and is 20-24 (83.3%) on faceoffs in the last two games.

    - Dan Girardi registered an assist, was credited with two hits and three blocked shots, and logged 25:30 of ice time. He has tallied four points (one goal, three assists) in the last seven home games, including three points (one goal, two assists) on the current homestand.

    - Brian Boyle registered an assist and was credited with two hits in 9:43 of ice time. He is now 11 point shy of his 100th career NHL point.

    - Ryan McDonagh was credited with a team-high, four blocked shots, and logged a game-high, 31:01 of ice time. Tonight’s contest marks the third time in McDonagh’s career he has logged 30:00 or more of ice time in a regular season contest.

    Quotebook

    Alain Vigneault on tonight’s game…

“There were quite a few moments that tested us. We were down by two early and had a kill to make at a critical time. We found a way, twice, to come back in this game which is something we haven’t done very often this year. There are quite a few elements that, hopefully, we can build on.”

    Henrik Lundqvist on tonight’s game…

“It was just a big relief to finally get two points. I had a chance to close it (shoot out) out twice, and I didn’t do it. I just had a feeling that if we don’t win this one, I’m not going to be a happy guy. Finally, we ended the game there. We worked really hard. They scored a couple good goals, they had some puck possession, but we worked really hard and came back in this one. It’s a big win for us. Right now, you have to look at it as taking baby steps in improving, and start winning. You can’t turn this around right away. You start with one period, then two periods, then a game. Then you start feeling good about yourself and where we are. It’s a good feeling to at least get this one.”

    Derek Stepan on tonight’s game…

“You look at games this year and you talk about a kick-back or a push-back. Tonight was a good night for us to push back.”
