Also reading that Kreider may be spending some time down at Connecticut Whale for a while
to sharpen up his game:
Steve Zipay @stevezipay
Torts says rookie Chris Kreider needs to push to earn spot on the team. "He has gifts" but must improve all-around game, he says
i agree with this move. his spot last year was a gift none the less... keep the young kid in check and make him earn it this season.
i imagine he will be up after just a few games though
Del Z is a tool off the ice. He blocked me on twitter cuz I was chirping on him about following all these soft porn actress' he didn't think it was funny. I did and commented he should just tell REAL pornstars he plays for the rangers and see what it does for him. Block..... :nono:
He needs to get some tough skin to play in New York. His flow is off hahaha
Stay home, dont get hurt, and get paid.
Oh and the cap still gets a 5 . 6 million dollar hit.
Thank god its a shortened season and we will finally be done with him.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Red Wings are discussing the possibility of pursuing soon-to-be free agent defenseman Wade Redden.
Redden, 35, was placed on unconditional waivers today by the New York Rangers for the purposes of being bought out tomorrow.
The Free Press claims the Wings are mulling over the idea internally, and assistant coach Tom Renney, who coached Redden in 2008-09, will factor into the club's decision.
Redden signed a six-year, $39 million contract with the Rangers in 2008, but has spent the last two seasons in the AHL
The Red Wings are one of several NHL clubs looking to add depth to their blueline and will have some competition for Redden's services.
Redden's agent, Don Meehan, did not confirm or deny having preliminary discussions with other teams about his client.
"I'm not permitted to talk to anyone about Redden nor can they initiate contact with me (until he becomes a free agent)," Meehan told TFP.
With roughly $9 million in available salary cap space, the Wings have enough room to sign Redden to a small contract and still look to make other significant upgrades to the roster throughout the season.
If the Wings are unable to sign Redden, however, GM Ken Holland will continue to explore options on the trade front.
Holland has been involved in several trade discussions with some of his counterparts over the last few days.
In 994 NHL regular-season games, Redden, a two-time NHL All-Star, has accumulated 106 goals and 344 assists for 450 points

lurk but dont post too much in this thread....ecstatic as I am finally getting around to see the Rangers at MSG...actually going to the Knicks game earlier in the day as well. I don't like pro basketball too much but going with a friend who went to Syracuse when Anthony was there and I'm showing him some hockey. Also going with a different buddy to Opening night in Beantown (he is from Dorchester and Boston all around fan so I should be safe with my Rangers jersey...hehe)

If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Brandon Mashinter from San Jose in exchange for forward Tommy Grant and a conditional pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Brandon Mashinter played in 12 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks during the 2010-11 season.
Mashinter, 24, has registered two goals and three assists, along with 44 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. On November 11, he notched his first goal of the season with a power play tally against Providence and, on December 29, recorded the game-winning goal with 3:37 remaining in regulation for a 3-2 victory against Providence.
Mashinter registered three points (one goal, two assists) in a five-game span from November 9 against Portland to November 17 against Connecticut.
The 6-4, 230-pounder has skated in 236 career AHL games over four seasons with Worcester, registering 54 goals and 54 assists for 108 points, along with 324 penalty minutes. He ranks fourth on Worcester’s all-time goals list and seventh on the team’s all-time points list.
The Bradford, Ontario native established AHL career-highs in goals (22), points (37) and penalty minutes (117) while skating in a career-best, 79 games as a rookie in 2009-10. He became the first player in Worcester history to record double digits in goals and fighting majors (13), and the second Shark in franchise history to eclipse 20 goals as a rookie.
Mashinter finished that season tied for third among AHL rookies in goals and ninth in penalty minutes. He also made his professional playoff debut in the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs, which he finished tied for third on the team in scoring with six points (one goal, five assists) in 11 postseason contests.
Signed by San Jose as an undrafted free agent on March 3, 2009, Mashinter has skated in 13 career NHL contests with the Sharks, making his NHL debut on December 29, 2010, at Minnesota.
Grant, 26, has skated in 34 games with the Connecticut Whale (AHL) this season, registering nine goals and eight assists for 17 points, along with 15 penalty minutes.
The North Vancouver, British Columbia native was originally signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on March 29, 2011

honestly, classy move by the rangers to buy redden out. they obviously still have to pay him, but they could have just (continued) to bury him in the minors (not one benefit to the rangers). buying him out allows him to TRY and continue a career in the NHL. the rangers organization is doing him a huge favor.
