    TIM ERIXON RECALLED FROM CONNECTICUT
Sean Avery Assigned to Connecticut; Marc Staal Placed on IR

New York, October 5, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that defenseman Tim Erixon has been recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL), while forward Sean Avery has been assigned to Connecticut. In addition, defenseman Marc Staal has been placed on injured reserve.

Erixon, 20, registered two assists with a plus-three rating and 10 penalty minutes in five preseason contests with the Rangers prior to his assignment to Connecticut on Saturday. He tallied his first points as a Blueshirt with two assists, including one on the power play, at HC Sparta Praha on Friday. Erixon made his first appearance as a Ranger in the team's preseason opener on September 21 vs. New Jersey at Albany, NY.

The 6-2, 190-pounder recorded five goals and 19 assists for 24 points, along with 40 penalty minutes with Skelleftea HC of the Swedish Elite League (SEL) last season. He established SEL career-highs in games played, assists and points while skating in his third full season in Sweden's top professional league. Erixon tied for fifth on the team in assists and eighth in points, and ranked fifth on the club in penalty minutes. He also tied for fifth on the team in playoff goals (three) and assists (five), and sixth in points (eight) while establishing playoff career-highs in games played (18), goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes (12).

The Rangers now have 23 players remaining on their active roster, including two goaltenders, eight defensemen and 13 forwards. The Blueshirts will begin their 2011-12 regular season schedule on Friday, October 7 vs. the Los Angeles Kings at Stockholm, Sweden (1:00 p.m. ET), as part of the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere.

    Woywitka a Ranger.

Friday afternoon the Rangers were awarded defenseman Jeff Woywitka off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens. Woywitka, 28, has 251 games of NHL experience with the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars. He was in his first season with the Canadiens when claimed by the Rangers. Woywitka has recorded 49 points (8-41-49) and 141 penalty minutes in his career after being the 27th overall selection in the 2007 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. It is not yet known when Woywitka, a former teammate of Brad Richards in Dallas, will join the team

refs fucking us already....i watched at work so i didn't pay 100% attention ,but we can't be losing these extra points

good to see the gabby line score and cally of course ,with a sick ass shot from behind the line

anything over 9 points would be great on this crazy ass road trip all over the place b4 our first home game on the 27th

you shut them down in regulation and Perry and Getzlaf in the shootout but unfortunately not Ryan on his fan shot that fooled Henrick

New York Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Los Angeles forward Kyle Clifford during the Kings' 3-2 overtime victory on Friday in Stockholm, Sweden.

The incident, which occurred 3:05 into the first period, was reviewed by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. The fine was levied for violation of Rule 41.1 – Boarding, of the NHL's Official Rules. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.

The fine money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

    Same shit..different season

Amazing they got a point..took a ridiculous shot by Richards to get it

Gotta love the NHL...we have lost the first 2 games yet the standings look like we got a win because we have 2 points

With these free points two OT losses is basically a win :? I know the league loves all the tight races but when you think about it..these free points are whacky

very true but as in the last few seasons with the tight races ,

we will probably get F'd out of post season by 2 in the W's column ,...

Well yea the tiebreaker of wins doesn't get help, but our actual points are so inflated
Just weird when you think of what really happened vs. The number of points the team has at any given time

  • that's nothing compared to when they had four columns - W-L-T-OT. Try writing hockey previews at 3 AM trying to get the team's record in its last 10 right. The Rangers have won 5 of their last 10, but are they 5-5 or are they 5-2-1-3?

Even worse, try looking up records for teams with each decade the standings being different than explaining to PR guys why the notes they're trying to write make no sense..
