please like the players and coaches say, one shift, one period and one game at a time. not that i don't have confidence in them, just don't want to jump that far ahead.

    Sorry, Game Off Tonight
For those of you just joining us, we present the following public service announcement -- Game 6 today between the Rangers and Devils has been canceled due to the series being won in five games by the Rangers. While we're waiting for the Rangers' second round opponent to be determined, with the Habs and Bruins going to Game 7 and the Flyers and Caps to Game 6, here is your assignment: read this article in the Record on the handshake fiasco and discuss. Extra credit: discuss this one on goalie abuse.

I thought Brodeur was kind of bush. The elegence of the post playoff series handshake is a display of sportsmanship. Hockey in general and the NHL in particular, prides itself on this tradition.

i am all about protecting the goalies for various reasons, but when they are out of the crease or behind the net, bumps and taps should not be considered interference of any kind.

but it's tough, where do you draw the line? i am not for a goalie getting leveled outside of his crease only to leave an open net to shoot on. that's not right and really not that fair. you are constantly going to have guys take intentional runs at goalies just to get them out of the net, on their ass and in a position in which it is impossible to play the puck.
  • Bathgate66Bathgate66 Posts: 15,813
how about if the goalie isd playing the puck in the parrallelogram ( rear net area ) then he is fair game to get hit.
otherwise respect the crease of course.

    hahaha

so whos our next opponent going to be ?

eh, you can make the arguement that he is fair game back there. but i just think they are too vulnerable to injury when you have someone taking a full run at them.

one thing i would like to change... when goalies get into fights, they both get game misconducts for leaving the crease. do away with that, sit them in the box for five and let the back up play. then coaches' decision to put him back after he serves his 5 minutes.

next opponent? bruins are hot, but i can't see them taking a 7th game in montreal. so i pick nyr vs mon & pitt vs philly.

I can totally see the bruins taking that game. They've managed to shut down the power play of Montreal to the tune of 2-for-28.

you're right, montreal has had nothing going for then. but still a tough building to play in. i wouldn't want the rangers to play a game 7 there.

    Yawning Through a Boring Day
UPDATE: Henrik Lundqvist is a finalist for this year's Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goalie, his third nomination in his three years in the league. He is up against Martin Brodeur again, but will likely have to snub Evgeni Nabokov this time around, Nabokov the odds-on favorite to win this year even though he did not dominate statistically, especially with his low .910 save percentage.

Can't happen... the Flyers are the lower seed so it would be Flyers-Habs and Rangers-Pens.

against the Pens ( Ice- Chickens ) , we are the away team.

Against the Cheesesteaks, we get home ice.

Perhaps it would be better for us to open up on the road- I personally think in playoffs the more pressure for a Game 1 is on the home team.

    thoughts ?

its hard not to root for home ice but honestly im just glad to be here

I've always preferred opening on the road... less pressure, no need to please the fans, just play simple basic hockey, score a few goals and go home with a win and some momentum.

    if i had a cjhoice

i'd like boston or montreal next ( battle of 2 original 6s )

and then face the Pens for The Eastern Finals- then go on to play Detroit ( another original 6 rival ) for the silverin the finals..

    ok kids,,

who do we match up better against ? HABS OR PENS?

im not asking for either or ,, however which one do u think favors us more?

had good success against the habs all year minus the 5-0 disaster

pretty much split w/ the pens

both teams can explode offensively..as can we
    both teams w/ young goalies,,the habs more-so

fact of the matter is ,its out of our control

    thoughts?
