hey neil brought us the cup, ended our unimaginable drought.
    it spanned generations man.

i will repeat my sentiments from yesterday
i seem to remeber sean avery arriving last season and breathing life back into the entire, talent rich roster.

i suspect the same this season when that madman returns.

regardless of how you feel about the guy, he does something to those around him, he did it last year, im sure he'll be doing it again.

he looks goofy as hell in the eye glasses on the little MSG graphics.

    this guy is too much.

Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down Flamingo Lane

Well the Maximum Lawman run down Flamingo chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl
And the kids round here look just live like shadows always quiet, holding hands
From the churches to the jails tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand down in Jungleland

The midnight gang's assembled and picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet `neath that giant Exxon sign that brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the Turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops, Cherry Tops, rips this holy night
The street's alive as secret debts are paid
    Contacts made, they vanished unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switch-blades hustling for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted explode into rock'n'roll bands
That face off against each other out in the street down in Jungleland

In the parking lot the visionaries dress in the latest rage
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing to the records that the D.J. plays
Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night moves on,
Just a look and a whisper, and they're gone

Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
    In a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal and then surrender
In the tunnels uptown the Rat's own dream guns him down
As shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
    Between flesh and what's fantasy
And the poets down here don't write nothing at all,
They just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of a knife
They reach for their moment and try to make an honest stand
But they wind up wounded, not even dead

I was flipping around on the NHL package last night while watching the Canes. Looked like a bad night for the greater NY/NJ area hockey teams. The best thing I saw from any of them was the Christie Brinkley commercial for the Isles. Wow, she still looks awesome.

I'm surprised at the Rangers start. They are stingy on D, but can't seem to put the puck in the net. What do you guys think about the rumors of trading Jagr? I'm sure they are only rumors, but would you trade him?

i had to work this weekend-
guess i've been falling out of tyhe loop- as this is the very first time reading / hearing / seeing about this .

So it looks like another pitiful showing last night.

To Torontos 2nd worst defense in the league ?

    i did read todays papers,
    & in the
    Post it
appears that L Brooks echoed my sentiments from earlier in the week:

Absent Sean Avery, the Rangers lack a forechecker with speed to arrive at the puck with malice aforethought. They lack an agitating force. They lack a line that can stir up energy and create a roll from one shift to the next. They lack a complete game, is what the Rangers lack. They scored one goal against a Toronto team that had surrendered four or more in six of their first 11.

maybe they should bring up a newbie or semi newbie to play on the line with Jagr. Pick any forward and just shift them over to the pivot position - there are plenty to choose from : Dubinsky , Callahan, Dawes , hell even Prucha .
    Maybe Betts ?

i hear that avery is chomping at the bit to return,

let the guy loose and lettem loose quick , before its too late.

  • and that's their reasoning for not doing so as said during practice today:

"If someone were really prolific down there...but we're not sure that anyone who can come up right now would make that difference for us," Renney said. "We need to generate some offense; the sort of player who would join us would be a third- or fourth-line guy."

    Avery Full Contact
    There’s always another game…
    October 29
This is why I’d have a hard time covering the NFL. Because as opposed to the Rangers, who can come right back tonight after Saturday’s debacle, a football schedule means scribes like me would have to come up with a full week’s worth of “what went wrong and what are you going to do about it” stories.

Instead, we have tonight to see how the Rangers respond to the latest in a string of setbacks. I will stop short of making any predictions.

    As for news:

Sean Avery was cleared for contact in the skate today, and was subjected to some bumps along the boards from Brandon Dubinsky. Later came more sprints under the supervision of Perry Pearn. Fittingly, Adam Graves was one of the people watching Avery skate, and the former 50-goal scorer was noting how the Rangers needed Avery’s fire back in the lineup. “He has an effect on both the team he’s on and the team he’s playing.” Funny, I thought while Graves was saying this to me, the Rangers used to have another guy like that…

Meanwhile, the more likely return date for Avery is still Saturday, but as Tom Renney said, “I don’t have Thursday circled, but he has it circled in felt pin.” In other words, Avery could make a case to return against the Caps.

Alas, the Dave Scatchard Era is over before it started, so cancel your jersey orders. The Rangers passed on offering the center a contract after he went down with a groin injury after just one game in Hartford. Turns out the jump from practices with University of British Columbia was bigger than he thought.

Tampa Bay’s standout defenseman Dan Boyle could return tonight after missing the first part of the season with a left wrist injury. The defenseman, who Renney coached in the World Championships a few years back, is a free agent at the end of the season, something the coach readily noted.

maybe the sparkplugs arrival can get this ball rolling.

    from the Bulletin :
Sean Avery, close to returning to action, made himself highly visible during and after last night's game. Looking sharp in a black suit and a tie dotted with skull and crossbones, he watched part of the third period from the blue seats. "Thirsty people," he joked about the fans he met up there. "They don't serve much water." But he said he had fun. He also had fun with his teammates during their postgame interviews, listening in on Jagr, Shanahan, and Gomez, and chiming in on the latter two. See Blueshirts Blog and Blue Notes for more on his imminent return from a separated shoulder.

Good game tonight, another clean sheet for Henrik, that's three on the year, not a bad start considering he had five all of last season.

The highlight of the night was that the section I sit in, 408, we had a special guest for the second period. None other than Sean Avery decided to check out the match in the second to last row. I didn't bother to try to meet him or get anything signed, he was swamped by fans trying to get cell phone pictures or autographs the entire time, but he took it really well and seemed happy to hang out with us.

NYR Lose Court Battle with NHL

    The Blueshirts Blog

    November 2, 2007
Garden Loses Court Battle with NHL over Web Site
The Garden's string of courtroom losses was extended today when a federal court judge ruled in favor of the NHL in MSG's bid to independently control the Rangers' Web site.

The NHL was going to fine the Rangers $100,000 a day unless they complied with league rules mandating that all team Web sites come under the NHL.com umbrella. The Garden sued seeking an injunction to prevent those fines and claiming that the NHL was "acting as an illegal cartel" in forcing all teams to run their Web sites in the same way.

Third Straight On the Line for Lundqvist and Brodeur
Will it be just another day at the office tonight for Henrik Lundqvist? Probably, as the offensively challenged Rangers will continue to rely on his superb netminding and their shut-down defense in going for their second straight win over the Devils, whom they shut out 2-0 at the start of their current 3-1 homestand ten days ago. But what will it be like for Martin Brodeur down the other end? Sean Avery returns to the Ranger line-up after missing the last ten games with a shoulder injury, promising to harass the Devils' histrionic keeper as he did so famously last season. Brodeur got off to a shaky start to his season, but has given up just three goals in fifty shots in winning his last two starts. He will be playing his third game in four nights as both teams, with identical 5-6-1 records, vie for their first three-game win streak of the season.

See Newsday for an article on Avery's return, the Post to read about the Rangers' success at home, the Journal News for a story on Brandon Dubinsky, the Record for a look at the slow starts experienced by both the Rangers and Devils, and NYR.com for their usual game preview. John Dellapina has the full story of the Rangers losing the initial phase of their lawsuit against the NHL over control of their web site in the Daily News and Blueshirts Blog (see the AP report for more) -- this ruling was on the injunction the Rangers were seeking to keep the league from fining them $100,000 a day until they turned over their web site, but as Dellapina reports, it leaves little hope for an eventual win over the league in this matter. In Hartford, Tommy Pyatt scored twice and assisted on Dane Byers's goal in a 4-3 Wolf Pack win -- see the Courant and Howlings for game reports. At Prospect Park, Jess has a full recap of other prospect action last night.
