you can get them at the carts across the street. there's one just outside the bowling alley on river avenue. the bowling alley is called ballpark lanes and i bowled a 150 there once. the hot dogs you get outside the stadium will be two bucks and the vendors selling the product for the yankees will be charging 4.50.

as for pizza, there are two pizzerias on East 161 Street just east of River Avenue.

There's also a place called US Fried Chicken on Gerard Avenue.

There's also a vendor that sells big sodas (not liters) for a 1.50 on 161th Street.

i usually get it with mustard or ketchup and sometimes sauerkraut. i don't usually have all of that on at the same time.

i think any of the afforementioned are the usual condiments. if you want a better hotdog than around the stadium try grey's papaya

the standard NYC hot dog is a Dirty Water Dog with mustard and sauerkraut. If you put ketchup on it, Babe Ruth will come down from heaven and shove a baseball bat up your ass.

    no no no, VH,
inside the stadium, as well as at the carts on the grounds right outside the stadium (before you go in the gate), they have these FOOT LONG kosher hot dogs that are just out of this world. Last yr they were $4.00-which I know is obscene, but they are so freaking tasty. I'm hungry for one right now just talking about it. I don't think there's anything wrong with putting ketchup on it,
but I usually get a little bit of mustard.

    as for pizza,
definitely get a slice on River Ave
and if you're looking for Yankees merchandise, buy it out there too. They have the "Got Melky" t-shirts! Don't buy stuff inside the stadium. It's way over priced. I don't think you can bring bottles or food inside, they search your bags.

well you could get two dogs that add up to a footlong as well at the same price.

yes, but it's not the same as this particular hot dog. I can't remember the brand name, but gosh darnit. They are SO tasty. Even tastier then the ones inside the stadium. VH be prepared for everything to be obscenely over priced inside the stadium, esp if you get thirsty. If you drink beer, it's like $8 a pop!

Yeah, thats not much different than the ballparks here. I think a beer in Chicago is 6.50-7.50.

I am a vervent Chicago Dog fan.....so I want to have as many comparisons as possible.

    right on.

So, River Ave is right by Yankee Stadium. And I can wash down my dogs with a slice of pizza?

    Oh, one more question......:)

Not food related...but I am going to try to make it to liberty island before the game. I will be in Battery Park at 9am, so thats not a prob. the ferry gets back around 11:20 to Battery Park.....

With a 1pm start....will that give me enough time to get to the game, considering traffic? Its a saturday day game.

i would highly recommend that you don't drive to the stadium. the traffic was a disaster before construction of the new stadium and now it's even worse. plus parking prices are very expensive and the air quality in that section of the bronx is among the worst in any urban area.

Wait are you driving? If you are driving, then NO.

If you take the train from the Battery Park area, you have to take the 4 uptown from Bowling Green to 161st St. It takes at least 45 mins to get up to 59th Street from there, so.. I mean you should get up there in approx. an hr but that doesn't give you time for the food samplings

River Avenue is the street under the elevated subway platform by the stadium. You can't miss it. X can probably direct you much better than I can though!

    what he said!
DO NOT drive up there, esp not on a Saturday. You won't find a parking spot and the garages are what, like at least 20 bucks, right?

the four train runs from the east side, it's about 20-25 minutes from 59th street

The D train runs underground from the west side, it's also an express trip and is about 20-25 minutes from midtown.

the only problem is, I am not staying in NY. I am coming from Philly in the AM, then leaving for DC after the game.

Parking price is not a concern to me, just availability and schedule-fitting-wise.

The parking situation stinks and you would really be pushing it driving from lower Manhattan up to the Bronx, parking, getting in and finding the beer guy, but knock yourself out. :)

if you are driving uptown from battery park at 11:20 am you will not get to the Bx and find a place to park in time for the 1pm Saturday ball game start. And you will experience mucho agita in the process of trying. I wouldn't even attempt it.

hehe, yeah thats what im trying to figure out. having never been to ny, its hard to tell if that would be a 25 minute drive or a two hour long traffic fiasco.

Chicago, in that respect, is much more easy to navigate. I mean, rush hour is another story, but in Chicago I can get anywhere on a Saturday morning/afternoon within 25 minutes.
