Well, as long as we're generalizing, I think you're on the right track comparing women to commodities. In this society, the media, consumer culture, etc. have represented women as objects to be used by men merely as a means to an end. It's no surprise, then, when men treat us that way.

Two suggestions: 1. Buy a vibrator; 2. Don't put so much stock into men.

i think we as humans are just becoming less loyal. men and women both. its sad, but its the way it is. we also live in a "what have you done for me as of late" and " instant gratification" society. and lets be honest, sometimes its just easier to walk away than it is to FIX something.

:D Well except Rock on, cutback, chaddles, trailer, the wolf, patrick.......I could go on but I'm bound to miss someone and land myself in it.

You know, from this side of the world, in another time I could have made that comment but it would read:

Oh, sorry, let me be more specific....AUSTRALIAN MEN!!

You know what? Some men do think women are disposable, some of them grow out of it, some of them do not. I realize if you've just been on the receiving end of some nasty shit from a man, or even several in a row, that you would be feeling that ALL men are bastards. But they're not you know.

When you've got that nasty taste in your mouth from the bad behaviour of an individual the best thing to recover, in my experience, is to label the bastard you're dealing with and then forget him! Spend your time looking at the men around you that are great and reinforce to yourself that there are some really great guys in the world. Why give the arsehole more power than he deserves to have? Don't let him shape your view because if you do allow that to happen you'll be missing out on some really great people, men included, even AMERICAN MEN!
    Thank you for that!
They think they are 'saving' us from pain and hurt, but really all they are doing it sparing themselves from feeling like crap...just MAN up and do it! We're strong enough, we may cry and get sick at first but I bet you we'll be better off with out you!!<---sorry again:) personal issue!

Luckily, not all men are like this, however I think there's a sub-culture of men who are like this.

I have no idea why some people are like this though. Perhaps they have trouble with attachment or deep feelings in general?

Not a good statement if I'm in a touchy mood. This may be the case with some but all the marriages I have witnessed splitting have been at the woman's request... including mine.

I agree. I too am offended by some posts and i'm a woman!

I've been in relationships when guys have cheated and left. I never once felt 'disposable'... I had more pride than that. Sure I was unhappy, confused and very, very angry but it didn't cause me to make sweeping generalisations of men. I understood that what happened to me on one occasion was due to his decision to act on impulse and desire. He never once 'disposed' of me, infact if anything he was extremely upset because he didn't want to hurt me anymore.

There are a hell of a lot of good men out there. American, British, Australian... it doesn't matter where they're from, it's who they are. I know a hell of a lot of good, honest men who would never in a million years even consider 'disposing' of a woman.
