well ... we've discussed this many times over here ... although i didn't agree with everything rae did ... he inherited a $5 billion defecit from the liberals and walked into a recession that spread across north america ... can't blame the ndp for that ...

i don't blame the NDP. the only reason i said that is because people don't see the situation that a government was set up with all they see is what happen with that govenment while in power.

Layton seems ok and I would vote (and have voted) for the NDP over the Liberals (who I hold nothing but contempt for). I don't agree with everything that Harper says or does, but I think that he has been pretty good so far. I don't think that he has done anything that he didn't say that he was going to do when he campaigned. I just don't think that a socialist government in Canada is a good thing at all.

The best government for Canada would be a Conservative minority with the NDP as the official opposition. The Conservatives could continue to try to cut the fat out of the system and lower taxes to draw investment into the country (ie more jobs for more Canadians) and the NDP could make sure that important social programs like health care get the funding that it needs. Simple, right? :)

well ... this is the rub ... what he wants to do is not what 65% of the population wants him to do ... the only reason he is getting away with it is because the liberals have no spine ...

having said that - yes, he is doing everything he said he would except not really ... his promises of an open, transparent gov't that was based on grassroots initiatives is pretty much a farce ... and where is this made in canada solution to climate change ... he is doing nothing ... far worse then the pathetic liberals ...

we aren't actually seeing the impacts of his policies right now but look at ontario today with our shortages in funding from the harris years (flaherty was minister of finance there too) and you can see what tax cuts and under-funding of programs lead to ...

don't worry folks, you'll get a 1% tax cuts in a month... when you'll be buying a new car with your new super tax reduction, Harper will celebrate by buying more tanks, and giving some good govt. money to some rich industries in Alberta...
