Texas School District Will Let Teachers Carry Guns

A tiny Texas school district may be the first in the nation to pass a law specifically allowing teachers and staff to pack heat when classes begin later this month.

I think this is a bad idea of a Texas School District Allowing Teachers To Carry Guns. More focus will be on the guns in school and less on actual learning. I gather they do things quite differently down in Texas.

Is this a good idea or the wave of the future in school campuses around the country.

I couldn't even imagine. I know I would never be able to learn [not that in high school i did much of that anyway :(] but I know I certainly wouldn't be able to fall asleep during class.

What's most disturbing is how it's worded, 'teachers will be allowed to 'pack heat.'" What the hell...

This should go over well, as long as no teacher ever gets angry enough on the job that they want to shoot someone. And what in a school could possibly make a teacher really really angry?

Great. Just wait until a teacher goes postal. I remember teachers having breakdowns in front of the class when I was a kid. Good idea to let them have a gun on them in that moment of irrational rage.

wait until a student gets a hold of a teachers gun, bound to happen.
  • Should teachers be allowed to teach?

    WHY?
this has all kinds of 'bad idea' written all over it. guns do NOT belong in schools, period. i personally don't think they really belong anywhere else either, but that's another issue. i cannot even imagine teaching, or learning, in an environment that allows guns.

I love all these over reactions and abuses of peoples fears that come from the few, though horrible, school disasters. There are 10s of thousands of schools across the country, and I would expect less than a 10th of a percent have had a major problem. More guns at school will only add to the problem in my opinion.

More focus on guns? I don't get it.

I don't agree with it, but it's really not that surprising. This is Texas they are talking about.
Why does a school of 110 students have 50 teachers and staff anyway?
  • fuckin money.

If I were a teacher I'd have about 4 guns on me at all times. More power to Texas.

And isn't it beautiful that we still have a choice where we can say, no thanks. I don't want to live like that. But feel free Texans. Go ahead.

I'd feel safer if my teacher could cap some kid who was gettin' outta line.

Good for you. You would be well protected but not much of a teacher to where your students would learn something. You'd have a better career at a shooting range.

I've always found that children, like women but to a lesser degree, require a little smackin' around before you can learn 'em up right.

A bad student constantly going after the teacher . . .

    Inappropriate sexual relations w/ a student gone bad . . .

    Many possibilities.

Another misnomer: We don't all talk with that President Bush accent, either.

I work a job that requires me to basically travel to every major city in America at least once a year, and some in Canada. The one comment I get more than any other: "Well, you don't SOUND like you're from Texas."

I always get a kick out of that. Like the whole state is one big Western movie.
