What do you think would happen to society/the world if there were no rules, no authority, no government etc.
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense.

We'd be like congress, completely immoral, out of control with no compassion for anyone.

non-stop rioting. The world would be a mess with no order. The intelligent people would be overrun by the people who know how to destruct.
As in parenting, there must be some kind of order or rules set in place to instill values in people.

The world would stay the same. Some societies might be a tiny bit different.

Just to clarify. This is a very stupid question. Humans do not operate without some sort of system of structure, written or unwritten. I'm hoping the poster isn't suggesting this is a case-scenario for his/her imagined "society" to come.

It would be a helluva a lot easier for me to kill stupid mofos, without those pesky murder laws in the way, that's for damn sure.

That would resolve the overpopulation problem quickly. Otherwises it would basically still be the same stuff : people on top, people at the bottom and people in between.

Quite the opposite I for-see a society where there's nothing but rules and regulations. One under constant monitoring and supervision, one so strict one can't take a dump without authority knowing.

As for the question....After some period of chaos and mayhem some form of structure would be implemented which brings us back to "Same As It Ever Was".....Talking Heads

    :) yeah I understand.

I guess it makes you stronger in your own beliefs, coming to stronger conclusions in what you side with it.

On the other hand, its more difficult to see the other side. Thats the hardest challenge especially when you think a certain statements are unfathomable. I also like hearing new insights, or looking at issues in a whole new way due to all the responses.....

Personally, I know it makes me face issues that I dont always want to face...just from being lazy or just uncomfortable with a subject.

    So thanks eveyrone....

There have been and is plenty of stateless societies if that's what you imply. By enlarge people aren't unruly, in-fact most of our so-called moral values are genetically determined.

People who think there would be anarchy without laws are truly frightening. Our only way of imagining what other's might do is by introspection. The man who says he would murder his neighbour, if not for the fear of God, is a frightening man as well.

A Canadian Libertarian Stefan Molyneaux writes about his imagined stateless society here. I have some personal issues with Stef and wouldn't recommend his philosophy to anyone, but he does write brilliantly on the idea.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Speak for yourself. Rules and authority aren't what make me who I am. And I don't think the majority of people would turn into psychopaths like most politicians are. Most people have a conscience. The only way filthy lawmakers don't all commit suicide is because over time they've learned to shut off the part of their brains that tells them what they're doing is wrong. I believe it's a serious medical condition that the majority of citizens don't have. The average citizen is just lazy and uneducated and become the prey of psychopaths.

This is true. That's why it's so important for people to establish their morals and values OUTSIDE of religion.

I live in Utah where mormonism is predominant. This isn't a shot at their religion or anyone else's. But I've seen over and over and over again someone who won't drink, smoke, have sex, etc. because the religion tells them not to. But then if they have the slightest bit of doubt about the religion they fucking go off the deep end and turn into a cracked out thief manwhore or HIV skank with no morals whatsoever. They were only trying to live a good life because they thought it's the only way to get to heaven and become a god or whatever. So take away god and they have no other reason to live good lives. It's fucking insane.

Those are the types of people that might cause some chaos without rules. But overall I think we'd be fine. I really think it would balance out and the world would probably even be a better place.

Good point....let me ask this....cuz your comments made me think....do you think that there is fanaticism just as strong among the anti-religious?

BTW...the manwhore comment made me laugh!!! Too funny!

yep, id clean up the moving train REAL good. show cw just how pussy this liberal isn't.

we'd end up banding together in small groups and it would probably make most people happier. humans are social creatures and need to feel part of something. that's the problem with america now... no sense of community. for all our instant communication, we are more isolated than ever. it's why religion is attractive. it's why politics have become more about partisanship and less about civic duty. it's why this forum has thrived so much. with no laws, people would bond based on shared interests and be happier and closer to their fellow for it.

on the other hand, we'd be down to survival of the fittest and i'd make damn sure i'm fit.

Its not possible. As soon as the current authority is torn down a new one will form to take its place whether it be to rule with an iron fist or for the betterment of the human race or even just for their own protection they will eventually impose rules and authority again. Anarchy is an illusion and even the Mad Max scenario has a leader imposing his will on others.
