You popped in with a comment about your 8 year old talking about dying and a rabbit named Kurt Cobain in a thread about life and death...what else am I supposed to think?
when you mention all of the above, it puts it all in a new light. Your kid probably isn't emo, ok? I don't shush my kids or do anything you allude to...my kids don't live in a bubble. They are probably as wonderful as yours.
i doubt it. ive yet to come across a child as great as my nearly 8 year old.
it was just a dumb thing to say, thats all. you ask questions you dont jump to a conclusion that really isnt there. probably isnt emo? see you did it again. LMAO!! zoe's nearly 8. her biggest concern right now is to seeing avril lavigne live. making an innocuous statement about when you're gonna die when youre so young you really have no concept of death and mentioning kurt cobain doesn't amount to a crisis or to being emo.

"teh" is an ancient and noble, as well as mystical martial art, founded in 1964 by a group of monks had two left thumbs.
I am the secret heir, descended directly from the line of the head monk, "Teh", who name meant "something, we are not sure what" !!
When I eventually reveal myself to teh world, all near spellings of this mystical word will revert to the true form, confirming me as the worst typist in teh world, an influence so prevasive, no-one in my realm of influence will be able to type any other form of this word.
Or I'm just a cunt !!
Yoo just gonna have to wait adn see !!! Tee hee !!
I didn't know that, I figured it was more "emotional". Your definition makes more sense.
MInd you, all teh kids I see at teh malls, are dressed up to party and having a ball. It's a bit weird seeing teenage boys who are probbaly straight wearing fishnet sleeves and make-up and shit.
Oh thought it was more like that too luce.
But I love seeing kids dress like that. It's just them expressing themselves.
Is it just me or does emo then just sound like rehashed goth and rehashed marilyn manson, and rehashed frankenfurter, and rehashed Ozzie and Alice?
I did all that stuff back in the day and I look like a perfectly boring middle aged housewife now. Well except that I'm not! But people can't know what a wild child I dressed like as a kid.
Is it just me or does emo then just sound like rehashed goth and rehashed marilyn manson, and rehashed frankenfurter, and rehashed Ozzie and Alice?
it's just you jeanie.
emo started in DC so long ago those guys are fathers themselves now. it is not a recent thing. but the way it is expressed has evolved and become what is so maligned nowadays.
emo started when bands like embrace decided to write about things such as how they were feeling about stuff, other than boozing and getting chicks.
so its not about being emotionless. its about being in touch with those emotions.
now if you'll excuse me im off to listen to some dashboard confessional

actually, it wasn't a dumb thing to say. I (along with everyone else) form an opinion on what other people post. YOU posted what you did and I commented on it. You seemed a little proud of the death thing and obviously the bunny, too.
why did you rip me a new one but when someone else called your kid creepy they didn't get the same reaction? Does the word emo cause that much emotion?

I'm quite willing to bet that it is just me! And I know you'll say so!
But don't you see the similarities in the dress? Like what lucy described sounded just like the last Marilyn Manson gig I was at, in terms of dress anyway.
Not to mention a revival of Rocky Horror.
Just seems like there is no real "new" stuff anymore, although I had no idea that "emo" could be traced back that far, I had kinda just dismissed it as kids raiding their parent's wardrobes and record collections.

youre right it wasnt a dumb thing to say. it was merely not well thought out. and the other person didnt say 'emo 8 year olds, what is this world coming to?' you used it derogatorily and dismissively. that's what was offensive. i wasn't ripping you a new one i was explaining my daughter and how unconcerning her behaviour is to someone who knows her better than anyone else in this world..
and its not pride i feel for having a daughter who said something about death or even that she named her bunny kurt cobain. thes etwo things are really inconsequential in the scheme of her life.
its common sense that i dont pigeonhole someone based on a comment or an action. i was merely making a comment and perhaps naively thought the mention of cobain would negate any thought of her being creepy. the same with the 'rabbit' song comment.
and emo by definition is emotional.

What is the difference between punk, grunge and emo as far as lyrics are concerned? I just love music because I do. I don't analyse these things as much as some people. I like to hear your opinions. ??? I love punk and grunge but not...

emo has morphed into something unpalatable to a lot of people. i think that if there is a problem, that is it. it's become too slick, too corporate. and mindless in some people's minds. it's become more style over substance.
and yeah just like you i like grunge and punk but i can leave emo on the floor most of the time.
and again like you it doesn't much concern me what genre music is pigeonholed into. if its good ill listen to it. i love music. though death metal is hard to take. as well as some screamo.
as far as lyrics are concerned, i think it depends on the band and where theyre situated in terms of geography, mindset, influences and time.
i have a real problem with labelling as well. i can't classify punk and only do so in conversation so the other person has a reference. and even then its broad generalisation cause im usually talking to someone who thinks the epitome of punk is the sex pistols. what is punk anyway? and for that matter what is grunge? the term punk, didnt start as as having anything whatsoever to do with music. but like a whole lot of words it took on other definitions aside from its tradition/original one.
if i had to state a difference between the lyrics of grunge, punk and emo, i would do so with huge reservations. personally, i find grunge and punk are more(though not always) social in their lyrics whereas emo is more personal (though again not always). remember this is my personal opinion and in no way definitive. or even correct for that matter.

Thanks. I am interested to learn more about Emo, although I can't bear to listen to these bands labelled 'Emo'. But it seems to be the new fad like... and let's be honest? Grunge and Punk. Or am I wrong?

Yeah, you're probably right. I don't really listen to many new punk bands. Perhaps that's why I said that.
I think someone may have mentioned this earlier but I am sure 'punk' is a very old word for 'prostitute'.
no. punk, in the words of william burroughs is someone who takes it up the arse. especially in prison.
