You control them as much as you can..that's fine..they will eventually rebel, pursue any independant path available...might turn goth hard to say at this point...But
Media is so pervasive, especially in the United States...everything they see is an ad. Don't know but I would provide alternatives to consumerism as opposed to trying toblock them from that since it is impossible.

It's not as impossible as you think. Any rebellion is normal and I can deal with goth (I think). I would rather see them being their "own" and not someone that follows the crowd. They do that so far. (so good). Lindsey Lohan was in the parent trap and they don't know who Paris Hilton is. They are leaning towards Republican but it's mixed with Democrat... just like me. Tried-and-true republicrats (or democrans)... we shall see.
The point is, parents DO and CAN control their kids.

Although, humans think that they "rule" the planet. This, you cannot deny. I hope that my kids treat their planet with respect... respect for everthing that grows ON it (this is why I compost and vermicompost) and respect for the people that roam it with them.

Noone actually "runs" the world? Perhaps it is all not a great conspiracy. That some people and groups will try for something, sure. Are they omnipotent demi-gods who can control everything? Not likely.
That the elite looks out for the elite is not news nor surprising. Assuming that they're behind everything imaginable of bad stuff, well, I won't credit them that much. Shit happens, unfortunately.
