Obama's on crack. You cant legislate the end of a war. And congress doesn't have the power to make decisions on troop levels. You Obama supporters ought to read the Constitution. Seems Obama doesn't have a copy himself.

The Democrats are not going to do anything different in Iraq. they will continue down the same road as this administration. Hillary, Obama, Edwards, etc... are all just blowing smoke up our asses to get our support.

  • Section 2 - Civilian Power over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Seriously Last Exodus, I know nothing about Obama. And I've stayed right out of the American politics threads, but I will just say this:

Your government has never listed to John Howard before, hell most of us don't listen to him! So maybe he's not the best person to cite as even a voice to be listened to let alone agreed with.
    NOPE!!!

what a crock of bullshit. so johnny howard has just taken the side of the terorists by hoping for an obama victory. maybe he should concentrate on his own country and butt out of things that really aren't his business. what right does he have to say anything about obama's decisions? australia has enough of its own problems without worrying what the leader or possible future leader of the united states says or plans on doing.

    here's a thought johnny:
why don't you grow some much needed backbone and concentrate on getting david hicks home free, instead of sucking the arse of the US government.

When did John Howard becomd an expert on the American Constitution?
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

cate girl! Johnny will never grow a back bone! Not gonna happen!! Nah, I reckon they're up to something! And I reckon in a little while we'll be able to work out what. Maybe something to do with this Nuclear power thing they're pushing. Johnny's just deflecting our gaze from his actions on that by stirring up shit with America. Usually how he operates!
And I don't know cate, sometimes it seems they'll never let that poor man go. And we will never as a nation stand up and tell the American government in no uncertain terms that their actions in this case have been appalling!
I notice today though the headline board for the papers are saying Kevin Rudd is at 63% popularity. Interesting! Maybe the times are a changing? :)

He's not Ahnimus. He and his cronies prefer to leave any reading up to the Americans to do and then get them to inform them of their options and prefered course of action. Just ask Phillip Ruddock!! :)

  • One more reason not to vote for Johnny. I don't know how much confidence I have in Labor's ability to run the economy successfully, but I can't help thinking that whatever mistakes they make can't be as bad as the direction the liberals want to take Australia in. I think if Howard had his way we'd be a conservative christian theocracy (protestant of course) in 20 years time, with the penis of American imperilism lodged firmly in our collective anus.

:D:D I do so like your posts Scubascott!! Not just pretty pictures!! Smart and funny words too! :)

I have no confidence in Rudd not to take us down the same path as Johhny from a conservative religious standpoint! When are we going to get a real alternative that is clearly interested in separating Church and State? And you're right, Labors previous economic mismanagement is definitely cause for concern. But yeah, I'm sick of living in a country that keeps taking it up the kyber because our government keeps making easy access. ;) I just hope we can recover from the damage done so far.

He won't win another term in office, surely. . . Will he?

I mean come on, after David Hicks, gay marriage, Iraq, mandatory detention, children overboard. . . and there was the old fashioned rogering he gave the sugar growers when he signed the free trade deal with the seppos, climate change denial, poor handling of the tensions with the pacific nations . . .especially in the current climate of anti-american sentiment. Surely he won't win another election.

But that's what I thought about Bush getting is for a second term. I really hope we aren't as dumb as that.

All extremely valid reasons to boot his ass out of office sscott but, gee I don't know. I think maybe we aren't as dumb as that, but Johnny keeps getting in on preference, doesn't he? The Nationals have really helped him there, and Labor, The Democrats, The Greens, none are standing out as a single good alternative. People go with what they know, unfortunately.

And I cried way back when he got in initially. I said to my grandma on the day he was elected. He's just like a really dodgy guy in a nightclub that keeps popping up and asking you to dance. You keep telling him no, but he keeps popping up. You don't then go get so drunk you take him home and f**k him!! That's how it felt to me anyway. He'd been trying so hard just to get to be the leader of the opposition, and then all of a sudden PM? His election was worthy of tears and still is.

And don't get me started on George W!!

funny, i coulda sworn my copy said something about war powers being expressly delegated to congress... id double check but my constitutional law textbook is WAY to hefty to be lifting at this hour.

anyway, ive got to side with obama here... if this dude's so gung ho about iraq, how come he's committed a whopping 1000 troops to non-combat roles and nothing more? if he's so worried about boons for the terrorists maybe HE can cough up a few more soldiers to actually fight.

I'm guessing the minute he found his soul mate in Dubya when he 'beat' Gore all those years ago.

It's completely out of Howard's character to not understand how this would actually elevate the standing of someone who's ideologically opposed to him. And even more, to possibly damage the relationship between the leadership of the two countries, considering how much he values the alliance. Seems to me he's getting ready for retirement, since this just smacks of his final effort at cozying up to his slavemaster in the White House, with no thought whatsover of the consequences.

Of course he feels this way. Wouldn't expect anything less of him. But to be so outspokenly interventionist- it's just baffling why he'd do this.

How about the fact that our population is about 5% the size of America's? So if we were to make a contribution (which we shouldn't have) it should be about 5% of America's. Of course that's a completely lame argument, because we sent 50,000 troops to Vietnam in support of another stupid american war, and our population was significantly smaller then.

A better explanation is that our contribution is just a token show of support by our Bush puppet of prime minister, designed to keep that anal passage well lubricated while not provoking too much outcry from the australian public.

Sounds like you guys have your own George W down there from the sound of it. Nasty convservative despised by the young, yet bewilderingly re-elected by the majority...We get it. Got one of them here. Love Aussies myself. I did some serious drinkin with you guys whilst on holiday in Bali many years back....Sadly, the same bar that I met so many cool Australian in was blown up just a couple of years after that by some lovely little muslims.

I don't know much about your PM other than the fact that he stood by our stupid ass President. Some of us are actually quite greatful for that...At one time our countries had common enemies, now it seems all we have are common problems...

Yes! That's what it's named after I think! There was a very funny ad campaign here years ago, which I can barely remember but Khyber Pass was the joke. :D Of course we took it and ran with it!! :D AND it was long before current world events. We have a lot of Afghanis here Last Exodus, they came out with the camels way back in the 1800's. Hence our famous train The Ghan. :)
