The battle against low name recognition may finally be turning for the Ron Paul campaign.
The Paul campaign has had no trouble generating enthusiasm from supporters, but low name recognition has hindered the Texas doctor. A fund-raising record and a rise in the polls may indicate he's ready for a break-out.
Dismissed by critics, both in the media and in the political sphere, Paul's campaign made a bid yesterday to prove it's "ready for primetime".
The candidate continues to show grass roots support; his campaign have broken their own one-day on-line fund-raising record.
Back in November, the Paul campaign raised $4.2 million online in one day with what they call a "money bomb," a fundraising gimmick devised by Trevor Lyman, a musician and self-appointed Paul fundraiser profiled by The Times Dan Morain yesterday. Sunday's gimmick was to celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party on a website with a drawing of Paul that looks remarkably like that president on the penny.
The Paul campaign has shown surprising strength in fund raising and on-line polls, but that has yet to translate into mainstream poll numbers.
However, this was a time for the campaign to celebrate. The amount wasn't raised by a small group of large donars, rather it was an avalanche of small donars--via the web--that drove the fund-raising.
As of shortly after midnight Sunday night Pacific time, the Paul website was reporting more than $6 million raised on Sunday from more than 30,000 donors and an amazing fourth-quarter fundraising total surpassing $18.1 million. The little-known pro-life Texan, who favors abolishing much of the federal government and the Federal Reserve, could raise the most money of any Republican candidate this quarter. A spokesman said the average donation was $50.
The Texan's campaign has not been shy about deploying innovative, attention-grabbing fund-raising methods. They have spurred on giving by everyday donars giving small amounts.
Today, they're at it again. Hoping to detonate what they call a "money bomb," the supporters started fundraising at midnight Saturday and have already raised $2 million as of about 10:30 a.m. today, more than at this point on Nov. 5, according to figures they posted online. They hope to collect a total of $10 million by midnight Sunday.
Besides the 'money bomb' idea, they've used Guy Fawkes Day and yesterday's anniversary of the Boston Tea Party as symbols of their 'back to the Constitution' campaign.

well, i hadn't been following the Paul campaign lately so i wasn't aware this money bomb thing until this morning. i did see a story the Ron Paul blimp the other day, and found it interesting that the Paul campaign had nothing to do with it. same with the Guy Fawkes day event. the Ron Paul phenomenon has become a lot more fascinating and energized than I had expected. i have some big disagreements with Ron Paul, but i some very big agreements with him too, which i dont i find with any of the leading candidates. he would really shake up washington if he won, and that's a great thing no matter how libertarian-minded you are. Ron Paul is great at the debates - i think this had been the key reason for his surge of support (via the spread of debate clips on youtube), although at the PBS/Des Moines Register debate he was not at his strongest.
however, a lot of people (our elder citizens) only see what runs thru the mainstream news cycle, so their perception of Paul is limited.
who knows... maybe Ron Paul has a chance... it's worth a try.
if we want to get rid of the corruption in our government, let's realize two things: Dennis Kucinich has NO CHANCE of being elected President. Mike Gravel, though i love the guy, has NO CHANCE either. Ron Paul probably doesn't have a chance, but 'probably' is good enough for me at this point, and see what we can do..
holy...only 20k short of 18 million. There are reports that the they can't keep up with the # of donations, so I'd say he topped the 18 mill mark.
I read somewhere (I'll find the source some other time) that Ron Paul, if he doesn't win the republican primaries, will not run as a third party candidate. So if he actually doesn't win these primaries, surely he will have some leftover money? What will he do with that?

Distribute it back in to the system, or it wouldn't surprise me if he gave it back.
$100 is a really small price to pay considering what his offer is. You'll see that $100 many many times over if he is elected.
The rest just want more and more govt plans.... more of the very thing that is hopelessly fucked up at a fundamental level and needs to be resolved immediately. More govt is a bad thing right now in case anyone hasn't noticed.
Right now our children and grandchildren and great grand children are getting screwed and nobody seems to give a shit. Some f-king boogey man in a turban is what we can tell them...some fairytale fabrication played out on the public.....when they ask what we did about it....we can say we did nothing because too many were too scared to think straight. The boogey man scared grandad....sorry your life is so hard because of it...sorry you have to pay for it. We were scared! Sorry kid....time for my Geritol enema...good luck.
It's a farce...so many people are really clueless to it. Sad really.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

I'm not so sure. At least he's the only one going against the system that actually has a chance (sad to say). Kucinich, Gravel and Ron Paul are the only three that aren't CFR members....they've never been invited to become members because of their views. I think this lends it all some legitimacy. The sad thing is there is no such thin as a third party any time in the US. It would probably take billions, even then it's not going to be possible, as the inside circle will squash it.
Also the fact that the MSM demonizes RP on a regular basis. It can't all be that calculated, and devious. That's like saying RP is a planned deception 10+ years in the making. I would find that really hard hard to believe given the supporting facts.

Congratulations! As of 2:00 PM ET today, Ron Paul was certified to be on the ballot for the Republican presidential primary in Virginia.
The Republican Party HQ of Virginia determined that he had enough signatures to be on the ballot. Actually, their staff had to stop counting after the first box of petitions because there were just too many petitions to count.
Thank you to all our volunteers for your hard work in getting Congressman Ron Paul on the ballot. You made this happen!
Cheers,

What a day! I am humbled and inspired, grateful and thrilled for this vast outpouring of support.
On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet. Must be the "spammers" I keep hearing about!
The establishment is baffled and worried, and well they should be. They keep asking me who runs our internet fundraising and controls our volunteers. To these top-down central planners, a spontaneous order like our movement is science-fiction. But you and I know it's real: as real as the American people's yearning for freedom, peace, and prosperity, as real as all the men and women who have sacrificed for our ideals, in the past and today.
And how neat to see celebrations all across the world, with Tea Parties from France to New Zealand. This is how we can spread the ideals of our country, through voluntary emulation, not bombs and bribes. Of course, there were hundreds in America.
As I dropped in on a cheering, laughing crowd of about 600 near my home in Freeport, Texas, I noted that they call us "angry." Well, we are the happiest, most optimistic "angry" movement ever, and the most diverse. What unites us is a love of liberty, and a determination to fix what is wrong with our country, from the Fed to the IRS, from warfare to welfare. But otherwise we are a big tent.
Said the local newspaper (http://www.thefacts.com/story.lasso?ewcd=36475b4d132fc0a1): "The elderly sat with teens barely old enough to vote. The faces were black, Hispanic, Asian and white. There was no fear in their voices as they spoke boldly with each other about the way the country should be. Held close like a deeply held secret, Paul has brought them out of the disconnect they feel between what they know to be true and where the country has been led."
Thanks also to the 500 or so who braved the blizzard in Boston to go to Faneuil Hall. My son Rand told me what a great time he had with you.
A few mornings ago on LewRockwell.com, I saw a YouTube of a 14-year-old boy that summed up our whole movement for me. This well-spoken young man, who could have passed in knowledge for a college graduate, told how he heard our ideas being denounced. So he decided to Google. He read some of my speeches, and thought, these make sense. Then he studied US foreign policy of recent years, and came to the conclusion that we are right. So he persuaded his father to drop Rudy Giuliani and join our movement.
All over America, all over the world, we are inspiring real change. With the wars and the spying, the spending and the taxing, the inflation and the credit crisis, our ideas have never been more needed. Please help me spread them https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate in all 50 states. Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less.
Sincerely,
Ron
