The fact that we have so many people coming to this country for jobs, not leaving this country in search of jobs elsewhere.
Same can be said for many industrialized countries. This is going nowhere. I'm sure wages are really high in the us if you're qualified enough but I'm thinking about 2-3 countries where the same can be said. I said what I said on Beckham because minimum wage is lower in the us than in many other industrialized countries and Beckham should hardly be earning more seeing what he did the last season.

Please justify this statement. Why can't he earn more with another employer? Obviously the new employer feels they'll benefit from employing Beckham so why shouldn't they pay Beckham accordingly?

Perhaps not quite an answer to your question, but have you seen how much Beckham is reported to be earning? I hardly think he's being paid "accordingly".
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
well no, 'everyone' isn't. What IS the minimum wage over there?
Why is the minimum wage a good measure of this? There are almost no heads of households who rely on minimum wage.
Wouldn't average income be a better measure? Even with our huge population we managed to rank 6th in the world. Note that that is higher than Ireland, the UK, Canada, Slovania and Australia just to name a few countries represented by frequent contributors.

But if he generates more in new business than he costs how is he not justified in getting paid what he will? The majority of Beckham's salary is coming from previously signed endorsement deals where his current club receives 50% of the endorsement money. In Beckham's new deal with the LA Galaxy he keeps all the endorsement money. If he doesn't generate the new business then it's the business owner who takes the loss. I'm fine with this process. In general, I think that people who have worked hard on their education or have taken risks to open their own business are more okay with this process than people who have not actively been looking after their own best interests.

Minimum wage shouldn't be the measure. Minimum wage is what 16 year old kids make in this country. Now if your concern is that teenagers aren't being paid well enough here, we can have that discussion, but I'm not certain it is germane.

People were saying everyone is paid more in the US... well that just depends on what you're doing... if you're a CEO I'm sure there's no other country in the world you'd earn more and that's all well and good... if you're a CEO!!!! There are more millionaires in the US than any other country in the world and THIS brings the average UP but the difference between rich and poor is probably bigger than most other industrialised nations. The 'average' pay here is more accurate because most people I know actually ARE earning what the average is. And we're not just talking about heads of household.

As someone who was born and raised in the U.S., I can tell you that your views aren't correct - or at least that's my opinion.
Sure, in the 1950's kids were brainwashed and all gun ho on America - but nothing could be further from the truth now. We aren't the sheep everybody thinks we are.... look at the dissent towards our president and his war. His approval rating is hovering in the 20's.
First of all you were dumb enough to elect him in the first place. And it had jack all to do with policy or anything of any significance. He got in because the Democrats were stained with the indignity of their President getting a blow job in the Oval office and lying about if afterwards.
And as for the so called 'dissent' towards the President and his war - you guys went and re-elcted him. The phrase too little too late comes to mind.
of course we're stupid. why do you think everyone runs to us when they're in trouble? we're stupid enough to help everyone else.
the only reason for that is because you think you own everything when in fact you do not........making laws with government to make it look like you own eveything......... leaving the trouble souls behind....if you ask me, that's a pretty smart way to screw your own people don't you think?

I think it's the combination of arrogant fools and real dumb people that makes many people say Americans are stupid, plus all the shit that is aired worldwide with dumb Americans influences the image others have of you. There are stupid, narrow minden and dumb people everywhere..
ignorant - not having enough knowledge, understanding or information about something vs stupid - foolish or unwise; lacking judgment or intelligence

It's not the same thing, just look at all the different letters! but there is some resemblance in lacking knowledge / intelligence, no?

Ignorant = lack of knowledge / understanding
