I agree with the anti-Bush, pro-choice sentiment but refusing to do a service for that reason is bordering on partisanship.

i was an employee. But How i see it is, i was working off of commission. The only person who wasnt making money was me. Someone else did the work, I just felt they werent good enough for me to work on there car. Plain and simple .

But seriously, all you're doing is living out Bill O'Reilly's wet dream of culture wars.

I mean pro-life-stickers? That's one of those issues I where I think both sides are pretty reasonable (the extremists notwithstanding of course) - one side thinks one should have the freedom to decide something for themselves in America (how novel!), and the other wants to prevent something they see as murder (again, how novel!). While personally pro-choice, I certainly understand where a pro-lifer is coming from. Though I can see how you wouldn't want to work on a car that says "Bomb all abortion clinics," but it doesn't sound like that's what you're talking about.

Anyway, all you're doing is screwing yourself out of business, so I think you're free to act that stupidly, but I stilll think it's needlessly stupid and divisive.

So if they came in with a kkk bumper sticker on, I should work on there cars? I know thats not in the same league, well thats not all true. Its my little way of rebelling, no one is getting hurt.

I wish we could have different opinions and still work together. I have a fitness center. I have an Obama sign in my yard in this small town. I know there are people who probably won't vote for him. Would I refuse to have them in my class? No. Would I talk politics with customers in general? No. People can have different opinions. We're in the process of building a shed and a few days after we put out our Obama sign, we got a call from the town building inspector telling us that someone complained about the shed. They were asking if the shed was zoned properly and if it was so many feet from property lines and the road.

It is close, but it passed. I live in a rural Republican area, and I don't rule out the complaint due to the sign, which is one of the few around here.

This hatred had got to stop or else we're all fucked. We'll all just destroy ourselves with this election, rather than any thing good coming out of it, if it continues. I wonder how we look to other countries...they must see a bunch of raging lunatics on tv, and think that the citizens are losing their marbles, possible self-implode.

I doubt it. if Obama wins the hate will just get worse...

This just happened to me. I've been waiting around all morning for a roofing contractor to give me an estimate to do some repairs from hurricane Ike. My insurance needs 3 estimates before they cut me a check for my damage.

Right around 10am this contractor pulls up my drive and all the way up the drive he's looking at my election signs in my yard. So I go out to meet this guy at his truck, I've known him casually for over 20 years, and I give him my most friendly greeting and extend my hand for a handshake and I get nothing... Not even fine "how are you?"

He hardly spoke to me as I walked around showing him the damage...
Real fucking uncomfortable attitude the whole time.

So as he's leaving I ask him if he can get me the estimate by Wednesday so I can turn it in to the insurance company.
"Yep" was all he said as he got back into his truck and turned back around and refocused his attention on my Obama sign.
He gets about halfway down my drive when he turns around and comes back.
So I go back to see what he needed and he says
"you know that estimate you need?"

    "yeah" :confused:

"get Barack Obama to do that for you"

and he just took off staring me down...

I promise I'm not making this shit up.

PM me his phone number please. I'd like to call him and thank him for the best laugh I've had in weeks.

    That is ridiculous.
But, I agree that all the signs everywhere are a bit of overkill. People will vote for whoever they choose, why do we all need to know who you're voting for? Do the million political stickers I see everyday bully me into voting for that person? No.
Also, we are all human. I don't like or dislike a person based on who they vote for. My best friend votes completely opposite of me. We don't talk politics. haha, maybe that's why we're still friends.
Every single person I work with, including my employers, are voting for the person I'm not voting for. I don't dare tell them because they would all hate me....
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

You should call him up and tell him Barack Obama did indeed do the estimate, and in about half the time it took his ignorant ass to do so.

Most blue collar folks hate Obama. They understand what it means to work your fucking ass off and don't want the government doing everything for them, and especially not for the people who DON'T work as hard as they do. Plus, if he, a small business owner, makes over $250,000/yr. he's gonna get a tax hike. So why the fuck would he like Obama?
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Oh and, "CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE!!!"

The other day someone who owned a plumbing business which makes PROFITS OF OVER 250,000 a year asked Barack Obama if he would get a tax hike and why. Obama said that it's "their turn" [meaning the poor]. The guy asked why he should get taxed more on money which he rightfully made and earned, and that just because he's successful he has to be penalized. Obama said it wouldn't be just because he's successful, but that when you have money it's good to "spread it around."

If anyone says this guy isn't a socialist, I want to know if you really know what socialism is. He literally supports socialist ideas but dresses them up with nice language to make everyone hear what they want to hear and not the underlying message. He wants socialism here in America. And for those of you who say "So what?" go read up on Socialism and Capitalism and tell me if we would be anywhere near where we are today as a country, economically AND politically, without Capitalism. In fact, tell me if Barack Obama would be anywhere without Capitalism. This guy wants to destroy the very thing that enables people like him to achieve so much.

a few points of tax increase and people are crying socialism ...

You want to talk about Socialism??? Let's talk about McCain's plan to buy up ALL the bad mortgages from the banks AT THEIR FULL VALUE AND PASSING ALONG ALL THE LOSSES TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC .... then, you come back and we'll talk about socialism.

Well if the next US president is a socialist you have to admit, it will be some change!

As for capitalism and socialism, I disagree with your position. Capitalism sure helps a society moving forward real fast, so fast in fact that the longer it lasts the more people are left on the side of the road. So many in fact that at one point things have to change : war (ww2 for instance) or a massive change in your social and economic system to give some time for your society (and today the rest of the world) to catch up. It seems only human to be apalled by the widening of the ressource gap.

  • DUDE ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, AND ITS SOOOO WRONG MAN!!!

A business owner that actually does not grab for the money, instead chooses not to help someone based on ideals? God forbid. Its actually kind of admirable.

Had it been a race issue, its likely the guy would have said "that nigger obama" or something overtly racist with his comment. As evidenced by the pro-life/Bush person, this type of protest is not neccesarily a racial issue at all, yet a lot of you seemed to have jumped to that conclusion without any real evidence (much less proof) of that.

I get a huge kick out of this notion that "race relations have not improved since the 60's"... Um. Yeah. They have. Its not perfect by any stretch... but perhaps you forget in the 60's a black man couldnt marry a white woman, there was still blatent segregation, and lynchings and violence and abuse.

Well, I got my estimate from him along with a note that was somewhat cordial and apologetic. He says he can't do any work for at least a month. It looks like to me he bid up his estimate on purpose but my insurance company doesn't necessarily take the low estimate... So he may be doing me a favor if I choose to use his estimate.

Actually, I'm going with his estimate because it includes some decking repairs which the others haven't included, plus it's $1500 more that I can use to do painting and trim work and also repair some siding that popped loose.

Btw ... He's an independent contractor and is known for being an a-hole...but he's also known for doing top-notch work.

  • Stories like this are way too common lately.

A friend of mine has been blackballed by her family over her reaction to an email that a relative forwarded that said "CHANGE-Come Help A Nigga Get Elected". Being an open minded and intelligent person she emailed back and basically said to leave her out of that kind of garbage.

This started a whole shit storm of drama and instead of just being an issue with one relative, now it is a big part of her family that just cant believe she would consider voting for Obama. She told me they have been so hard on her that she doesnt even feel comfortable going home for Xmas.

I understand disagreeing, but it shouldnt become so personal. To much ugliness over "That One" reeks of barely-veiled racism IMO.

whats with all the flags? I watched a documentary on the BBC the other night and Stephen Fry talks to tis guy works in NY City whose job it is to go around the city raising all 68 flags on his route or something?!?

is it for people with really bad memory so they can go "oh fuck, i've forgotten which country i'm in... oh look a US flag!! i'm either in Iraq or the US and judging by that fat woman shooting a burglar over a toaster, my guess is USA." ... or is it to attract bees?

I am sure you already know this, but dont go getting all your news from the BBC and expect to still have any respect for the States. BBC was all the news I had for 10 months I spent in Germany. If a story had anthing to do with the USA it was negative. Literally I remember my wife and I being shocked 2 or 3 times when they had a story that didnt lambast the USA.

people take flags to a football game... as they support a football team... once home they dont put that flag up on their house, council buildings, shops, etc. its actually very unique to america. i will walk home tonight and see maybe one Scottish flag hung from a building.. in the US you'd see 10's if not hundreds. haggis? whats with the haggis... i wonder if i'll get disability allowance after that crippling retort?

read what i said.. it wasnt news, it was a documentary.. and its about a comedian/actor travelling through all 50 states of the US AS HE LOVES THE PLACE SO MUCH... it's not a negative show whatsoever.
