I haven't tried this myself yet, however, I thought it was worth posting anyway. Will update once I've given it a go.

  • That's fucked up. Myspace has been such a gift for getting information out there. It's really a shame to see this outlet getting censored, too.

I don't see a big deal with this. And I actually like Ron Paul.

Well for one, why are they doing this with Ron Paul supporters? I bulletin for Kucinich all the time and I receive Obama bulletins a lot as well.

That is strange. I think I'm going to use my husband account (he never uses it) and post a Ron Paul bulletin and see what happens.

I don't really know why. He has about the same shot as Kucinich no matter what the bulletins say.

Other than that, I don't see a problem with MySpace allowing and not allowing anything really. They won't really allow porn on that site either I don't think. The site can allow whatever it really wants since it is a private site that pays for its own bandwidth.

Also, has anyone else tried this? One guy on youtube is not a conspiracy to keep Ron Paul down. Maybe some jackass supporters of his (not every supporter, but the kind that nobody really likes) were posting that bulletin from a bunch of accounts that weren't theirs and it was reported.

There are a few possibilities for this. Overall though, it's not really protected speech anyway.

I have a few Ron Paul supporters on my friends list and they are all bulletining the same complaint with censorship. I'm aware it's not protected by law but it is censorship nonetheless. I'm just wondering what the reasoning is. Maybe the recent success he's been showing has something to do with it?

Well, I posted a 'Support Ron Paul' bulletin with my husbands account and nothing odd happened, at least not yet. I also see the bulletin post on my page.

I wonder if this was an attempt by a Ron Paul supporter to get a bunch of people to post Ron Paul bulletins just to see what happens.

    Kinda clever, I think :D

it feeds their paranoia too. The video isn't necessarily real. I do take any censorship seriously though.

Ha ha. Clever indeed if that's the case. Unfortunately for Ron Paul, my husband's bulletin only went to me, oh and Tom.

I didn't have time to watch a video, but this kind of stuff has been happening at a lot of sites. Ron has a huge amount of Internet support since he has been a long-time adversary of government regulation of the internet. Because of this, a lot of technical people have been using systems to try to make blanket appeals and affect the outcome of polls. For example, ABC left Ron off of their post-debate poll and, after receiving complaints, this is what happened after they added him:

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/BeSeenBeHeard/popup?id=3135373

    ;)

So this puts the providers in a tough spot. I really don't blame myspace if they're trying to prevent people from gaming their systems. It's just sad since Ron isn't going to get much mainstream media attention and the Internet is the main place for him to get the word out.

Ah yes I was just going to add this about the RP poll problem. That and having all the candidates from all parties listed has been a problem. Especially a few months ago.

Well...I tried it myself and didn't have any problems that I could see. I've logged back on maybe once an hour since and everything seems to be OK. Thanks to anyone who tried it themselves, didn't mean to cause a stir.

And, while I am a fervent believer in RP's candicacy, I can't think of a better opponent for him to run against than Kucinich. I disagree with his gun ban proposals, but the repeal of the Patriot Act, withdrawing from Iraq, NAFTA, WTO are issues that I can get behind.

The debate between the two would at least be one of substance, not the hollow & insincere drivel dripping from HilOba MittCain's mouths....

Thanks. I've been getting McCain and Guiliani shoved down my throat so I must have missed Ron Paul.

No problem. FYI....Ron Paul is probably the only candidate in the entire race that isn't interested in shoving things down your throat.
  • I think the video was misleading. More than likely there was some sort of javascript or code in the bulletin that got his account in trouble. Funny how even in fullscreen you couldn't read the code.

It seems like his supporters are becoming that way though. It's sad really. I do like Ron Paul a lot. His supporters are going to the extreme though in their online tactics. More conventional methods could probably help him get his message out without looking like a conspiracy nut.

I totally agree. Some of the supporters are very fervent and take things a bit far with their actions, particularly the prisonplanet idiots. This myspace thing is probably a good example of where they've taken things too far and hurt the cause more than they help it.

But it's tough to fault Ron for the actions of others, and the "conventional methods" aren't exactly open to him either.

I don't fault Ron Paul for it at all. I just kind of cringe at the image it creates for him.

And the comments posted in regards to the video hint or overtly say something like this. Not to mention numerous people responded commenting that they were able to send out bulletins re: him, just fine.

I think a Kucinich-Paul presidential race would result in the most substantive political debates since Lincoln debated Douglas. Too bad it's never going to happen :(

Totally. The hardest part of being a fringe candidate is convincing people you're better than a fringe candidate. This kind of crap just makes it even harder.

In order for two people to debate, those two people must share a rational foundation. That would be impossible with Kucinich & Paul. It would be a total joke.
