In case you hadn't noticed, there's a fair amount of Catholics ALREADY IN IRELAND. I don't have a problem with Catholics, CW, I have a problem with discrimination against homosexuals - or prejudice against any naturally occuring part of the human condition. I don't believe the faith necessarily defines the person, so yes, people of all religions are more than welcome to come to Ireland. Even you.:)
"I have a problem with discrimination against homosexuals - or prejudice against any naturally occuring part of the human condition"
Do you feel that anything "occuring naturally" within a human should be accepted and embraced? Because if you do, that would mean that you see no problem with pedophiles, alcoholics or psychopaths (etc) because their condition occurs from natural genetic anomalies.
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense.
A truly liberal person is conservative when necessary.

Okay, I'll admit I should have qualified that.
Pedophiles harm children, so that makes them different to homosexuals (non-pedophilic ones) immediately. I believe they should get treatment for this.
Alcoholics are free to sign up to AA or whatever. They're only damaging themselves, as much as smokers are. Addictive personalities should get treatment, as they are damaging themselves, and potentially others (drunkeness, second-hand smoke, etc.)
Psychopaths are dangerous, like pedophiles. Again, I think they need help, and should get treatment.
Homosexuals are sexually attracted to members of their own sex, which harms nobody really. I don't see why they're any more deserving of prejudice from the church, or anyone, than heterosexuals.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

It all boils down simply to opinion and belief. But by the same token, those on this side of the fence do not have a right to abuse or strip them of their rights. Because as you said, their choice is not affecting anyone but themselves....until of course they bring children into the mix (but like you said, small steps-a discussion for another time) However, that doesn't mean I have to accept it or like it.

You're right, it is all opinion and belief. And I just don't see how it's right to deny homosexuals the same rights as heterosexuals based on a religious belief.
Like you said, nobody can make you like it. But I don't like people making reality TV, and I can't stop them. And that's the real threat to children's intelligence.:p

Ok, this is something I've never been able to understand ... why would you CARE? What does it matter who someone has sex with? Do you care what other people eat, or what time they go to bed at night, or where they go on vacation, or any other personal detail about a person you don't even know that doesn't affect you in any way?
I don't "like" it that people eat meat (I know you don't like it either), but I "accept" that they do, and I certainly accept that it's none of my business. I don't steer clear of meat-eaters or feel that I'm somehow "better" than they are. They're different people, they're at a different place in their lives, they've made a different decision. Big deal.
According to the Christian faith, we are all sinners. You haven't committed the "sin" of homosexual behavior, but you've committed plenty of others, and so have all of your friends and family, every single person that you care about. Out of all the sins that people commit, what is it about this one in particular that gets people so worked up?

I think it might be the fact that they (quite rightly) refuse to repent the "sin" of homosexuality? I dunno, I'm as confused as you are, Hippiemom.:)

For the same reason you care why I don't like it.
I can't answer why some people get worked up over this "one sin", for me there are specific sins (including this one) which have equal value as regards displeasing God. They are listed in the New Testament and are unrighteousness, greed, drunkeness, homosexuality, fornication, adultery, idolitry, lying, theivery, and murder. I view each of these as disgusting to God and engage in nor condone any of them.

Furthermore, Jesus never called the church "Catholicism." Quite frankly, name ONE thing that the Catholic Church does in immitation of Christs example and teachings.
"This is my body, this is my blood. Do this in memory of me."
The Church continues the practice of eating Christ's true body and true blood just as he instructed us to.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

But that's what bothers me about this church deciding not to hold the funeral... you know full well that they have held funerals for people who were drunks, greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, liars, thieves, etc... and it wasn't a big deal to anyone... but this one sin is what sets everyone in a tizzy, and they decided to give into pressure to call it off.
