Toronto is one of the few Canadian cities with adequate public transportation, and yet most Torontonians I know complain about it.

Montreal has the best subway system... rubber tires...smooth..quiet..

Toronto subways are noisy, rough and packed solid during rush hour. sometimes the wheels squeal so loudly for minutes at a time...they rock back and forth shaking you silly...the lights would flicker on aqnd off, and they would stop a lot mid-stop and wait for minutes at a time. almost post war experience... totally adequate.. but not that great. Go transit and LRT much newer and better.

It's been at least 10 years since I've used though...
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

it is the least funded public transportation system in north america ... i've been around the world and seen some kick ass transportation systems ... toronto (my home) is not bad but it still is geared towards bringing people into the downtown ... it lacks versatility ...

anyways - i live downtown and bike everywhere ...

hey man it's all we got right now short of embracing the stone age... I did say I refuse to live in a box and be disconnected with the outdoors.

If that's your thing well...viva la condo...and some freak upstairs walking on your head all the time.
OK so here is the deal. I won't start threads complaining about the freaks upstairs walking on my head because I choose to live in an apartment in the city, and you don't start threads complaining about the gas prices you pay because you choose to live in a house away from the city. Deal?

some of those are obviously just being smarter and pre-planning, but carpooling, 2 wheeling it, and public trans are pretty much out without drastic lifestyle changes. Most would have to be literally starving from gas prices first.

    Practicality is the reality.

Alternative fuels is the way to go though. I'm very surprised more natural gas cars are not hitting the market.
This is the point. Make lifestyle changes if your current lifestyle is bothering you. Right now your current lifestyle is pissing you off cause it costs you lots of gas money. So, either you put up with the gas prices or you can make a change. No one is forcing you into your car and paying those gas prices. Prices are not going to be cheap anymore like they were 5+ years ago. That is a reality you have to face so deal with it.
