If a draft occurs you can say "I Called it! I told you"

I hope like hell I'm wrong. And I'll fucking admit it. This isn't about bragging rights for me. I'm not putting myself on any pedestal of special knowledge by pointing out some obvious patterns in American history. It isn't that complicated.

then why would you make the point that they float it through the media first?

Either you think they are going to institute a draft, or they wont. for the last 10-11 years i can remember hearing just about every year about a draft... and i dont think its even come to a real vote (maybe a couple of symbolic 48584581-2 outcomes or something).

I gave you my reasons. They're looking for that leverage that will put it over the top. If they can't do it honestly, they'll create a media scenario in which they can. And alluding to your earlier comment:

There will be a draft if the Republicans go to war with Iran. Or if the Democrats go do their war. Like Pakistan and Darfur. In response to the post above......Our government was looking for an excuse to go to war with Iraq for a long time. They will find another one to get a draft.

They'll go, but they'll be in the equivalent of some far removed ultra top security Disney land pushing papers and giving orders. I doubt very highly they'll ever have to fire a weapon.

i agree. There are lots of people who refuse to stand behind their claims... and always leave themselves with an out to avoid being wrong.

When I heard about this, my first suspicion was, now we know why they hired a war czar and why it took so long to find him.

It could also just be another distraction to keep the masses occupied on another red herring though.

How do you know a "war" isn't really a "war"?

When there's no draft.

If this supposed war against "Islamo-facism" (or whatever slogan they are selling this month) was indeed genuine and as much as a threat as they've told us Congress would have declared war and started a draft.

Until that happens this is not a war, but a poorly managed bloodbath of a mis-adventure.

There will not be a draft. These draft rumors pop up at least once a year. Sometimes for political reasons, sometimes because of the tinfoil helmet crew. They are often perpetuated by the chicken littles. Either way, the rumor is far removed from reality. Most politicians won't vote for it because it will be political suicide. The military doesn't want it since it is incredibly hard to prosecute a war with people who were forced to join.

I agree, but also think because of the state of the military, they are throwing money at people and still not making their quota's both in re-enlistments and new enlistments, that there is a twinge of truth to the possibility.

This can also be a huge plus for those trying to get us out of Iraq. The fact we have to contemplate a draft just to stay in Iraq...can't see this happening.
