LMFAO!!! He needs an aide to tell him what he thinks about contraception! That's priceless :D

i think it is a travesty that politicians use religion to condemn millions of people to death. it is a scientific fact that contraception helps to prevent hiv.. there is no other reason than religion to deny people something that could save their lives. maybe someone should call it murder.

Yes, Mr. McCain, your position is, you are for...no wait...against...noo...ummm...trying to sort out this last campaign contribution that changed your mind...one sec.

McCain...how could a guy who in 2000 looked like real hope for this country turn into such a codpiece? :(

He had my vote in 2000. RNC lost my vote when they embraced W's premeditated war agenda. Now, McCain has gone soft in the noggin.

in my social studies class conservativsme is often refered to as murder, ;-)
maybe that´s not quite fair though.
but oppinions like theese cause people to die. as darkcrow mention.

And actually you would think that something like this would open peoples eyes, or at least weaken conservatives whose argumenst are that leftwingers are dumb and/or immoral. at least we know our own oppinion (;-)) and don´t vote against something that can save innocent lives.
i mean, how can you honestly get on a podium and tell people that those who wish to save live are the immoral ones, when, at the same time, you are a more or less condeming innocent people to death.
stuff like this make you wonder if there is even intelligent lifeformes on THIS planet.

Can't you just see a McCain presidency?

"Brian, what are my thoughts on Social Security?"

Maybe Brian should just run himself.

What if Brain quit?!?!? Johnny-boy wouldn't have any opinions on anything. :)

    "Brain, do I like soup?"

"Brian, when are we going home?"

I think that I would vote for this Brian guy before I would vote for McCain at this point... at least it seems like he can remember stuff.

Just reading this quote that hippiemom wrote before reading the whole transcript, did anyone else picture Peter Griffin asking his dog Brian what he thought about something?

Maybe I just watch too much Family Guy. :)

I'm sorry you can't hear my voice shrieking 'What?!!!!!'. Has he been living in a hole? My lord that's dismaying. This is a serious issue and I can't believe he's that ignorant. Or maybe he's not but he was thinking what and how to speak on this as not alienate his evangelical supporters.

exaclty what i thought...everyone, especially at his age, that has at least hit puberty should have a personal opinion of this! it makes it seem like he wasn't sure of what the 'right' answer was

edit: i don't mean 'right' as in right wing but what polls show the popular opinion to be or the right answer for a certain group of ppl....nevermind
    standin above the crowd

All he had to do was say that it's obvious that contraceptives prevent HIV, and that he wasn't sure about taxpayer funding going to providing that. I still wouldn't agree with his hesitation on funding it, but an answer like that would have blended in with all the other non-committal answers that all candidates give on most questions.

The more you pander and lie, the harder it is to remember what you said last.

All this does is convince me McCain is only interested in getting elected not wanting to lead. He will do and say whatever it takes to get elected.

Poor Brian. The guy probably has an entire laptop dedicated to archiving McCain's public statments on various issues, indexed according to what audience he was speaking to and what year the question was asked.

"Brian! Find out if I think puppies are cute, or if I'm more of a cat person!"

"Brian! I just got a question from the Times! Do I think today is Thursday or Friday? Check my past statements and consult a calendar!"

"Brian! Do I prefer missionary or reverse cowgirl?? I think I might have advocated doggy a few years ago during the primaries, make sure to check on that!"

To be honest. I've never heard of contraceptive being a political issue in Canada. In Vancouver B.C. condoms and syringes are handed out to the public to prevent the spread of HIV.

This must only be a political issue in the United States.

That occurs here to an extent, but you're right, it is a controversial topic in the states.

You crazy Canadians and your common sense and realistic approaches to help prevent the spread of HIV... We would much rather tell you not to do such risky activities and then act surprised when that doesn't work. Then we get to spend millions of dollars on drugs from our pharmaceutical company friends for treatment instead of spending a fraction of that at the beginning to help prevent the virus from spreading.

condoms break; leak; and are only a band-aid to make you feel safer. ask a nurse or EMT about getting a little body fluid on their skin.

Here is proof positive that we need more education regarding condoms. For various medical reasons, I couldn't use the pill, IUD or diaphragm, so I used nothing but condoms for about 25 years. Never had one break, never had one leak, never got pregnant, never got a disease. They work if you know what you're doing, so why not teach kids how to use them?

If they are misused. Condoms have a shelf life of like 3 months or something. And of course they are going to break once out of every five million times. You could just let kids have unprotected sex instead of educating them on the use of contraceptive. They are going to have sex regardless of what you say. So the responsible thing to do is educate them on contraceptive.

This is one of those situations where you need to realize that it's beyond your immediate control, all you can do is influence people. You can outright ban sex in all of America, but people are still going to do it. Take the responsible, mature approach and influence children by educating them.

When is our country going to fucking understand this? It's really unbelievable. I mean, conservatives, and whoever else have the right to believe that people should not be having pre-marital sex, or that using contraceptives goes against whatever religious beliefs they have, but they have to understand that there is nothing objectively wrong, or illegal about either. And that they can tell people all they want not to do it, but they should still offer education on how to do it safer, because its better than not using contraceptives at all.

its a little misleading, the question was whether u.s. tax dollars should be spent to prevent AIDS in places like africa, so its a little more complicated given that it is basically foreign aid.

i'm not making excuses for mccain, obviously he looks like a dumbass, but the question was a little more complicated than just 'do condoms stop the spread of hiv?", at least how i understand it from the article.

    he's still looks stupid though.

That was the initial question, but it seems to me like one of the reporters, or whoever, kept going, and just asked straight up if McCain thought that condoms helped prevent HIV. And some how McCain was brilliant enough to respond with an "I don't know".

The initial question was about AIDS in Africa, and I didn't think he bungled that one too badly. It was the follow-up questions where he looked totally clueless. The exact question was "Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?” and his response was “You’ve stumped me.” The reporter came back with “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?” and that was where he had to ask Brian to go find out what his position was.

It terrifies me that this man might get elected.

Although, to be honest I'm not thrilled with any of the other candidates but I figure Hilary or Obama (or even Edwards) would be better than another 'pubby.

That's the fundamental problem with polling.

"Do condoms stop the spread of AIDS?"

    No

"Do condoms prevent the spread of HIV?"

    Yes

"Should the U.S. provide support for the AIDS crisis in Africa?"

    Yes

i have 4 kids; 1 still born; and 1 aborted child thanks to condoms breaking. they do help if you don't kiss the person. but if you're doing it right; you can't trust condoms.
