The problem is they're extreme. I'm not making excuses for them cuz I can't stand religious nuts, but in this world sometimes it takes the extreme in order to get things done. It seems if you're on one extreme end of the spectrum it gives you more room to compromise.

Back to the jesus-freaks...I can't stand them. But most of the 'controversial' stuff coming from Wright is in his talks of peace. What rational human doesn't want peace? As someone mentioned, he rarely mentions god or jesus or whatever and they said he's not really a reverend because of it. Maybe that's why I've defended him a little bit on here...

Well, it's more about class than race, but when more black kids are poor and more likely to fall into those traps then it kinda makes sense.

I am not following your argument as to why you defend the guy, but hey ... Opinions do differ. Take some of the things he says and dial them down a bit, and yes, one can see some validity in what he is saying. But extremism never helps someone sound rational. It might make them sound like a crazy asshole, but rationality? That way involves the middle ground ... He may want peace, but he's using the same approach as the hawks in Congress ... Let's make peace by launching an all-out attack! Yes, that's a good plan. What person wants to hear that sort of attack? Others who are bitter and disordered, perhaps. Most people respond better to positive reinforcement.

I'm not saying the guy isn't fucked up and crazy. I'm just saying that there is A LOT of validity to some of the 'controversial' stuff he's said.

Extremists dont accomplish anything but flame fanning, are you even thinking before typing?

All the great historical figures who "got things done" in a positive way were pacifists by nature. It took a tiny Black woman who firmly yet gently refused to give up her bus seat to a white man to really kickstart the civil rights movement, all the chest-thumping up to that point didnt come close to the power of that single act.

And you may be right. But I see extremists sort of as a necessary evil. I don't agree with them, but they certainly do succeed at times in accomplishing their goals.
