That annoys me with the Paul supporters. I do think Ron Paul is a decent guy, and even with these comments, I tend to believe that he may not be a racist, but just made some stereotypical comments. I like this thread/debate because it seems to fall into a "cover-up is greater than the crime" situation.
I think he has admirable ideas for government and all that stuff, but the extreme supporters of his make him out to be some sort of god, and that probably turns more people away from him then supporters attract.
No that's not it. I think you're missing the message in general, and perhaps negating his supporters because you don't agree with what RP is ultimately saying.
What about his message do you think is so distasteful?

This is what I posted in another thread here about the subject:
Here's the thing about Paul's newsletter..............when I first heard about it, I was under the impression that it was one entry, written by a ghost writer. Even though I disagree with Paul on a lot of issues (except the war, he was great on that issue last night, btw), I have heard him speak and do not feel he was or is a racist. I accepted the 'ghost writer' explanation. But, now there are more and more excerpts from his newsletter coming out and this newsletter spans, what 20 years? If I accept that a ghost writer did indeed write all of this, it was still under Paul's name and it went unnoticed for all these years? It is incompetence at best. And why did Paul refuse to release all his newsletters once this was out? I don't think he should get a pass and be free of the suspicions and criticism. Any other politician (or almost any public figure) would be subjected to the same thing.

I'm not missing his message and I didn't say that his message was distasteful, in fact I agree with a lot of his positions. I do however think that electing him would cause a bigger clusterfuck in the federal gov't there there is now, because if he sticks to his guns, he will veto most of what congress does, and congress won't go along just about everything he proposes. All I can think if is Admiral Stockdale's "...this nation is in gridlock"
What I am saying, is that his vocal supporters are making him out to be some sort of god, and that is annoying and a turn off to most people.

On the current trend, I think the US govt is going to spend the country into oblivion, and make a lot more enemies around the world in the process.
A lot of RP's supporters are fed up with the current situation of government, and that comes through. After all, it is a revolutionary perspective. Every new generation brings with it a revolution in one way shape or form.
If Kucinich's supporters had the same fire and passion for their candidate he'd be a lot further along then he is now. I think his campaign and supporters have been too passive, and that why it's not gotten more attention .

So no one has ever answered my question, did Paul never actually read his own newsletter?
Surely his life can't be that busy.
And if he did read his own newsletter, why wasn't just a one time thing and not a series of newsletters that sometimes contained questionable content.
Like I said earlier if he actually read his newsletter and saw the first questionable article, why didn't he put a stop to it. And if there was a second questionable article, why didn't he just pull his name from it.
I'm just asking if any of you had a newsletter with your name on it that was sponsored by you, wouldn't you at least take the time to read it?
seems pretty simple to me... but what the hell do i know...

You're being irrational because you're zooming in on specific details and holding them up like the universe itself, when you need to be looking at it all from a wider angle.
that's not irrational. it just pisses you off that i'm focusing on something that is damaging to paul's messianic sheen. much of the rest of his stand-up routine is equally appalling to me, but this particular topic is what the thread is about. (see thread title.)

One good thing about internet media is you can kinda dig your way through the filters most of the time. With Tv its take it as it comes.
Plenty of info on everything, its the digging that takes the time.
i agree, but the internet has plenty of crap, too. i'm not so sure these paul followers are filtering through the bs in their zeal to raise him up as infallable.

The fact that no anti-racism activists have called the guy out after all these years is a good indication.

Plus the guys re-election record, and his black voter support is extremely high.
