Should a taser be used when you have an unarmed "protestor" who has no violated a law and is already being subdubed by five cops? Hell no.
That's where my problem lies. This guy was nuts, however there were no grounds for the taser. Those things are not a proven alternative to anything...they can kill and certainly this young man deserved to be removed, but not tasered and possibly killed.

Disturbing the peace and resisting arrest seem like a pretty good reason for the police to use force. The guy wasn't there to ask a question, he was there to create a scene. Plus you have to remember that Kerry is still a senator and his a higher level of security around him than your average person. Besides personally if I was resisting arrest (not that I would be dumb enough to) I would rather take a tazer than a crack or 2 on the head with a baton.

If the kid's time to speak was done. He was asked to stop. Didn't stop. Authorities tried to pull him out, but he resisted.
What should have been done? Let him continue his rant at the expense of everyone else's time, or keep struggling with him (while being careful not to hurt him physically or emotionally)?
If the taser was too violent, should they have just shut the whole event down? or maybe had it moved next door?
I just want to know what the "proper" way to handle this situation is.

in general, we trust our 3 branches to do a job. with this comes responsibility and privilege, and sometimes abuse. thats the system, if you dont like it, you are free to leave or do something about it. they did what they felt was necessary to subdue this person. he was disturbing the peace, and it should not be tolerated. why they didnt take him outside, i dont know and i dont think it mattered. the people on this campus knew his reputation and would have followed him with cameras regardless.
as far as the guy who said that cops dont like a fair fight, this isnt saturday night in a back alley in some podunk town where two people beat the crap out of each other because they dont have anything better to do. they have a job to do, and they did it.
