  • What shocked me most about it was the fact the Senator Kerry, the voice of the down-trodden and forgotten, didn't speak up for the young lad's right to raise his voice
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

Was he wearing a PJ shirt or something?

my son (who is also a PJ fan) and a UF senior marched in a protest on campus yesterday. (I am proud of that!)

I think the taser-ee was an ass and the taser-ors were only justified because of the prevalent "zero tolerance" mode we have been in since 9-11. I don't agree, and we need to change this - but the police were operating within now accepted parameters.

I am more worried about the recent censorings (PJ internet show) and Sally Fields (network).

  • Yes he did! He told the police to let him answer the students question and not to arrest him. Here's a quote:

In a statement issued Tuesday, Kerry said he didn't know a Taser had been used on the student until after he left the event, and said he hoped no one was injured.

"In 37 years of public appearances, through wars, protests and highly emotional events, I have never had a dialogue end this way," he said.

"I believe I could have handled the situation without interruption, but again, I do not know what warnings or other exchanges transpired between the young man and the police prior to his barging to the front of the line and their intervention."
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.
  • I saw the tape on CNN.com. I think that if he was being disruptive, then taking him out of the room is one thing, but there was no need for him to be tasered over and over like that.
  • I think Kerry said he didn't know about it until after the event, so he doesn't have to testify in court.
Oh help me, help me from myself!!!

  • that guy deserved to get his ass kicked, maybe not tased, but a good kick in the nuts

  • seriously. The kid was given his chance to speak. He was asking asinine questions. His time ran out, but he decided to continue. He was asked to leave, then resisted. He deserved the tazer. In fact, up the voltage a little and hit him again on his way out of jail.
The moron has done stupid stunts before just to get a laugh out of people, and this was just another chance to be an a-hole. He obviously planned to make a scene just to get a rise out of people. As far as I'm concerned, he should get tazed weekly to see if it might help him with his excessive need for attention.
  • not much to do with PJ except that he was censored in the worst way....maybe he crossed the line and acted like a tool but to subdue him with a taser when he clearly was not in the position to cause harm to anyone...I am on the fence with this one....we know what 1 crazy person can do and then this guy was only asking questions.....just disturbing that we have to bust out the taser on college campuses....

What exactly is a cop's IQ???

I have friends who are cops and am considering being one myself. All have college degrees. All have high IQs.. You're making a big fucking generalization.

Hanging people for giving out a shock of electricity? Get real. They were excessive, but a slap on the wrist or suspension would do.
  • He was given a chance to speak... he wasn't censored. The fact that he continued to speak when his time was up, then to cause a scene, cut into other people's chance to speak... in effect, he was censoring everyone else by only letting them hear his questions and opinions...

He continued to speak except he is wailing in pain after being hit with electricity....look...he was a dick, I accept that...but if you watch the video, you will see that before he was able to get his words out, 2 security gaurds actually grab him...to me that is censorship....He did not start making a disturbance until he was removed by force....If you listen you will hear people clapping when he was speaking...so I interpret this as an over reaction and censorship...You may be wrong about who was censoring who, please think about it....

UF should question why they have cops who can't subdue what looks like a 150 lb kid without a taser when there outnumber him 6 to 1.

no, the videos they are showing only show him being dragged and (deservingly) shocked. He was given the microphone. He had his say. His time ran out. He decided to continue to speak, thereby cutting into other people's time. He was censoring everyone else in the room by not letting them have their turn to speak.

Are you sure they weren't applauding because the authorities were getting rid of a nuisance?

    Well put.

I will say this though, watching people get tazed far surpasses my love for watching people trip and fall.
  • Funk the po-lease. No, but seriously, they had to taze because if they hadn't we would have seen a fair fight (one 6'3" young stud with a hard-on against three FORMER jocks and Judy Garland). Everyone knows police officers have to avoid fair fights; as soon as the cops start losing fights on CNN anarchy breaks out all over this Spike Lee joint. What?

By the way have you ever noticed that in the "Police Oath Thing" they don't specify who they agree to "serve and protect"? hmmm....

Ocean, why would you even bother responding to an ignorant statement like JamMaster's? dont waste your energy.

the guy causing a scene was absolutely anticipated and that was his purpose. they said that he runs a political blog and posts politically based videos on youtube. obviosuly this guy knows that the questions at these things are usually pre-screened and asking a question like "did you belong to the skull and bones society?" is not going to be answered. he was there with the intention of causing trouble. yes, he deserved to be tazered. then he said that he thought the cops were gonna kill him if he left with them. give me a break.

don't point your fucking finger at me.

ignorance is thinking that this behavior by police is exceptable.

i guess we should all lay down and submit!

  • Was the guy an idiot...yes

Was he threatening other students, Kerry or the cops...no

Should the cops have removed him and dealt with it in hallway outside...yes

Should a taser be used when you have an unarmed "protestor" who has no violated a law and is already being subdubed by five cops? Hell no.

That's where my problem lies. This guy was nuts, however there were no grounds for the taser. Those things are not a proven alternative to anything...they can kill and certainly this young man deserved to be removed, but not tasered and possibly killed.

Just another misjudgement by our supposed finest.

he wasn't cutting into anyone's time, ecpect john kerry's maybe. hte guy that asked a question before the man we are talking about was supposedly the last one, as the speech and question and answer thing was over. this dude asked for a chance to speak as well, and kerry granted it. it was the cops who were trying to shut him up, not kerry. kerry said to let him finish. then 6 people dragged 1 dude around and tazed him.
