    Interpreted in the most literal of ways, yes, conservative and liberal represent the most extreme of two views. But here in the real world we don't lump people into those two exact categories. I would send only the most dilligent to find me an example of the literal extremes.

    Hey man, look at the evidence, free-will does not exist. My brother who adamently opposed my idea was forced last night to actually agree with me. He then tried to flip-flop as I declared the implications it has on his faith. He failed to rationalize the two and ultimately argued that my theories only serve to demoralize humanity. It's the same kind of progress I've seen here. First you agree, go into denial when you realize the full scope, and then try to undermine the theory. It's classical defense at work.
