Some years ago, while teaching fifth grade, one of my students called another a n****r. The Black child turned and popped him in the mouth. When the first child whined to me that he had been punched, i said "Good. now go sit down".

Ignoring works well but sometimes its just not enough.

Nothing wrong with your son kicking some ass if he has too. Dont tell him to stay away from fighting...but make sure to pick his battles wisely.

That's what I tell my oldest. First ignore them. If they keep coming at you walk away. It they try to hit you then you throw down. My oldest was picked on in school by another boy last year. The kid kept calling him fat ass. Now my oldest son is a big boy, he's 9 years old 4'7" and about 110 lbs, but by no means is he fat. He came home upset so i told him the next time he did it to warn him. My son did just that and the kid persisted. I them told him to notify the teacher. He did but the kid kept doing it. I told him to avoid the kid and just ignore him. My son attempted to do this but the kid pushed him as my son tried to walk away so my son punched him right in the gut. I was called into school to meet with the principal and I told her that my son was only dfending himself. He was taking this kids abuse for weeks now. He informed his teacher and nothing was done. the kid laid his hands on my son so he defended himself and that i would not punish him for doing so. Fighting is not always the answer but if some punk ass kid is going to lay his hands on my son well I going to tell my kid to hit him back.

i need some input on this people and please i need parents input ,my 13 yr old son today was called a few racial slurrs in school today. i'm spanish my wife american that makes him 1/2 chilean and he was born here he's in 6th grade, the names he was called were mexican nigger & spic and he reacted and 1 thing led to another he had to fight 1 of the kids and in turn got inschool suspension ,i'm livid this the second time he has complained to me about this kind of problem my ? what steps to take at this time if any, i did talk to the assistant principle today and i should say that the other kid who he fought with did get the same kind of inschool suspension .but not the kid who actually called him names since he wasn't the kid my son hit .........

i've mentioned many times on the board what is happening but it falls on deaf ears. there's a great building of resentment because of illegal immigration; and to some extent, affirmative action. your son was mistaken for mexican. i believe it's only going to get worse for him and it may be best to just tell him the truth so he's prepared for the future as this comes to a head. america has used affirmative action to discriminate against whites and the whites are fighting back. that's the entire problem in one sentence.

sad to say here on long island ,town named SMITHTOWN

Not surprised at all! Born and raised in California I took acceptance and lack of racism for granted. After moving to Long Island I was astounded by amount of racial tension, racist remarks, etc. mostly from middle-aged middle class white people. Sadly, as long as your family stays there it will continue to happen.

i'd like to hear your theory on how we went from everyone being brothers and sisters in the late 60's early 70's to the hatred now on the streets.

i've got a black friend from california (he's around 48) who tells a completely different story about discrimination. it must be the area you're from.

Cool, I would have responded earlier, but I was banned. :(

I had an ebook before on "The art of fighting without fighting" it was on how to avoid the escalation of confrontations. It was a pretty good read, it lead into some Aikido techniques as well. Sorry, I don't have it anymore though. :(

Brothers and sisters in the 60's and 70's?! You do realize that Dr. King was murdered in 68. Right? The hatred you see on the streets has always been there. "White folks fighting back". That is hysterical.

where i'm from we all got along and hung with eachother and protected eachother. having a house in 2 different states gave me contact with more people than the average person. the girls wanted to date the black blokes making it a little tougher for the white blokes but we were like one big family. the parents watched out for the other children too. that's why we behaved. it was like having a parent on every corner.

seriously. and bobby too! i think people tend to glorify the era and paint it more blissful than it really was. there was a lot of conflict then, and i think it was more in the open as compared to now.

I think the best thing to do is for your son just to try and avoid the kids, if that fails threaten to sue that seems to always work and it will get the principle to take action.

And I think Matias is a fucking cool name.
that is the plan to avoid these kids and thanks i do like the name alot....

True. I am from the San Francisco area. I don't doubt that it is different in other areas.

violence begets violence. and martial arts draws fire. the karate kids are challenged more to "see what they can do". if you're taking karate you must want to fight. on the other hand; racial violence is rarely one on one. the martial arts kid just needs 2 or 3 people to beat him.

yeah there is alot of that here on long island, but my strategy will be to raise awearness to this problem if the problem persist with my son and those kids specially if i feel that the school is draginn their feet on this matter .....

if you're taking karate you must want to fight. .

Actually most martial arts schools teach as self defense only, and only as last resort. Random and superfluous agression is seriously frowned upon.

i understand that theory also, it would be just to get him to get rid of frustration and be taught self defense specially if he has another encounter with more than 1 kid yesterday he said there were about 4 kids with the group that started in on him......
