Salary caps work in football. A few great teams, lots of parody (sp?), and a few bad teams. Baseball needs a hard cap if it ever wants good competition.
the NFL is a perfect example of socialism working on a micro scale... it is the only major sport that has complete profit sharing and hard salary caps... and they are by far the most succesfull sport in the country... especially financially
Come on guys, you're arguments are petty. You know what he meant. The guy just named a rich person. Yeah, there are a lot of rich people who give to charity, and there are a ton who just want more and more money and don't give a shit about anyone. I would say there are less Bill Gates than the other.
besides, bill gates is STILL a rich sonofabitch, even after all his generosity.

this is what you guys do... ignore the actual topic and focus on some small point made... i used bill gates as an example...
the greedy society that cheers a system that allows a man to hoard $50 BILLION dollars while people sleep in the streets and starve
just remember... someone is going to freeze to death on the street tonight... blocks away from wall street...
what, then, is stopping you from helping that person? it seems you care deeply for your fellow man so why don't you do something about it instead waiting for our ridiculous federal govt to help?
the bottom line is they dont care about anyone but themselves... sorry, but it is the truth.
they would rather see a CEO make $300 million this year then have everyone chip in and provide univeral health care or free pre-k through college education
and most are the same guys that think tax cuts are good while at war?
the NFL is a perfect example of socialism working on a micro scale... it is the only major sport that has complete profit sharing and hard salary caps... and they are by far the most succesfull sport in the country... especially financially
OMG....
So, the capitalistic federation of major football teams is "a perfect example of socialism working on a micro scale"?
Let me know when people are forced to go to games and everyone in the country is forced to play a down. Then we can talk about "socialism working on a micro scale".
In the meantime, go to Cuba. That's socialism on a micro scale.
If person A has the right to demand payment from person B without considering the value of the arrangement to person B, what right does person A then have to consider the value of a person B's pay?
you guys who are anti-social programs, pro-capitalism, greed-is-good... i'll bet you make good salaries, right? you have good health insurance, etc.?
hard work, dedication, motivation, innovation are all good qualities which deserve to be rewarded. I work very hard. and in return I receive "nice salary and benefits" I dont demand anyone to hand me anything for free.
it just seems like the more money people make, the less work they do. i mean, you're HERE all fucking day, right?
at least i don't make alot of money, so hanging here seems like compensation. i do have excellent health insurance, tho. i am fortunate in that regard.

Why do you think the amount of work someone does determines the value of that work?

did you attend a public school?
that was paid for by other peoples taxes for the betterment of society, and your benefit
how about roads? travel them much?
and if you dont like taxes paying for social prgrams and servoces please do not call the police when someone breaks into your house... or call 911 when your house is burning down...
just wait for your neighbors to make a charitbale donation of water and a hose

Deal. Where do I sign up? Or are you just bluffing?
Why do you think the amount of work someone does determines the value of that work?
i don't, not entirely, but it would seem that at least PART of your day should involve actually working AT something. something that would prohibit your excessive use of rock band message boards.

I'm happy to pay taxes that goes towards police and fire departments.
Your point was that people's pay is related to the amount of work they do (it's not), and that the use of a message board somehow is mutually exclusive to doing valuable work. Both are obviously not true, so I didn't prove your point.
Let's try an exercise. Let's say that you own a house. Let's say that, one day, two solicitors knock on your door. You invite the first in and he looks around your house and announces that he will clean your house for $100. It will take him 6 hours. You then invite the second in and he looks around you house and announces that he can install a machine in your house that will clean it everyday. This machine costs $100 and will take 5 minutes to install. You decide in your head that one of these deals is good value, and the other is better value (it doesn't matter which is which). Would your decision have anything whatsoever to do with the amount of time either job takes?
so someone steals your car, your not going to call the police?
bullshit
I would definitely call the police! Hell, I'm already paying for their services. However, if you offered me the deal to forgo police services in exchange for being able to keep the money you force from me, I'll happily agree to not call the police if my car gets stolen. But you're just bluffing anyways.
i don't, not entirely, but it would seem that at least PART of your day should involve actually working AT something. something that would prohibit your excessive use of rock band message boards.
sadly you know little to nothing about anybody who posts on this message board.
work overnight shift? live off sound investments? you see where I'm going dont you....

or pay the police a fee for their service voluntarily of course.
some people think they are the only ones that matter...
Sounds kind of funny coming from a person making demands without promising to provide any value in return.
The fact of the matter is that everyone matters, rich, poor, or otherwise. The extension of that is that no one, rich, poor, or otherwise, has any claim to the rights of another. See how that works?

dont get injured or develop cancer... i wouldnt want to see your children lose their home and way of life because the bread winner got sick and can no longer provide for them...
oh thats right, it wont happen to you. because you work hard
I'm not terribly concerned about getting injured or developing cancer. But both are certainly possibilities. Regardless, my fears of injury or cancer don't give me a lease on my neighbor.

I don't have kids, but that certainly does happen to many who do.
it happens, trust me. i have experienced it.
I have no doubt that it happens, m2h. I don't think anyone is arguing that it doesn't happen. But none of those things gives people the right to force their neighbors to provide for them. It's like suggesting that slavery was right because cotton shirts prevented people from freezing to death.

Yes on the first, yes on the second, no on the last.
Yes on the former, no on the latter. How about you?

It certainly does.
My work not only does not prohibit my "excessive use" of rock band message boards, it enables it. Kind of nice.
thanks for proving my point.

I'm happy to pay taxes that goes towards police and fire departments.
great. and if they needed it I would be happy to return the favor. and happy I wasnt forced to do so.

but you free market, taxes=stealing guys are so damn naive it is funny...
thank god you guys are the foolish minority
Then educate us. We have a right to an education. Therefore, you have an obligation to provide it.
