    Yes the Dems are responsible but what about the Republicans. In 2004 the Democrats did not hold control of the House or the Senate so could not pass a bill or any legislature with out Republican support. So instead of presenting half the story why not try the truth.

    It reminds me of a caller who called into Bill Bennett's show this week. He was stating how in 2001 Treasury Secretary O'Neill and in 2005 Alan Greenspan spoke to Congress about the risk of sub-prime lending and that the Democrats did nothing. Of course Bennett was in full agreement both of them failing to point out that the Republicans where in control of Congress in both those years. So while it is true that the Democrats failed to act they conveniently ignore the fact that the Republicans, who where the majority, failed to act as well.

    That is why they voted for deregulation along with the Democrats. Please both parties are responsible for this mess and people like you you fail to see the entire scope of the problem because you are blinded by your hyper-partisan bias only make matters worse. Since 2000 Congress was warned several times about the problem with sub-prime mortgages and both parties failed to act. Up until January of 2007 Republicans had control and didn't need the Democrats to propose any type of legislature to stop the coming storm, but they didn't.

    Let me just also provide you with a bit of history. The first seeds of this problem where planted back in the late 1960's with the conversion of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from federal government entities to government sponsored enterprises. So to sit here and blame the Democrats is simply an exercise in shear stupidity. The is a government failure across the board, not one party's failure.

    If the rolls were reversed with Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Maxine Waters, Frank Raines, Jamie Gorlick ect... being republicans you would have democrats and the media demanding that people resign from there positions and there would be hearings in congress the likes we have never seen with people going to jail. What the dems have done with Freddie Mac and Fannie May makes watergate look like a little girls tea party.

    Its almost comical listening to some of you guys say its "everyone's fault". Its only everyone's fault when the dems are up to there necks in the shit they created. How anyone can possibly watch this video of congressional hearings, not to mention the mountains of evidence and paper trail that leads right to the democrats front door and decide its everyone's fault is beyond me.
